Overheard in the store, the way he talks to people on the phone is appalling. It wasn't just one occasion, but multiple calls on different days I was in. Yeah, prices are high, and shockingly so on seasonal items. The \old school charm\ is really just out of touch. You'll find people just as helpful at other stores, and they won't be condescending or price gouge. You have so many options in Portland, go anywhere else.

This store is a godsend, especially if you just need a few pieces or parts. The prices are very fair, the service is friendly, and the place has every nut, bolt, and gizmo you can imagine.

It's a nice store and the owner seems knowledgeable. The issue is that he has a sign that says \get your protest supplies here\ it went on to list stuff that these vandals would need to \protest\ in Portland. Why on earth would a small business owner encourage the sort of behavior?

Extremely rude over the phone and hung up on me. EDIT (in response to the owners comment): I also only had one question and he said “I don’t even know what you’re talking about!” and hung up. He didn’t offer to put me on hold and also didn’t explain the store was busy, otherwise I would have held. I wasn’t in a hurry. Rather than apologizing, he’s making up excuses for his rude behavior. I went to another independent hardware store nearby who didn’t have what I was looking for, but instead were extremely friendly and helpful and gave me a few other places to look instead. Go to Hippo or literally anywhere else but here.
