DeSurnTruth
Our youngest son was diagnosed with Aspergers at five years old. Thirteen years ago, the process to obtain a diagnosis was not easy. Nothing about Autism is easy. Before we had a name of Autism, friends and family voiced critical opinions of our son's behavior and, of course, our parenting.
Six years ago, our Pediatric Neurologist highly recommended Dr. Benedetti with Applied BehaviorTechnologies in Sparks, Nevada, in addition to our public school "Strategies" program, an IEP, and endless rituals. I was exhausted.
Through Chrissy (Dr. Benedetti) and the staff at ABT, our son gradually became less frustrated. He learned to identify his feelings and communicate his needs. At the same time, Dr. Benedetti taught techniques to parents who wanted to learn how to parent our unique children more effectively.
Through the last six years of ABT, our son has developed true friendships. It was a quality of life that we thought may not be possible for him. Our son and his friends meet for movies, play games together on the computer, try new things like roller skating, shopping, bowling, and jumping like crazy! They meet for pizza, throw balls, swim, play games, loose and win, phone, text, and zoom with each other. They practice for job interviews, and reach for the moon!
I know that other ABT parents share my reflections of the invaluable life skills and social skills our sons and daughters have gained through Dr. Benedetti and her skilled, ever-patient staff. They are impossible to list.
Harsh, critical voices are everywhere; it's the easy thing to do.
Improving the quality of a child or young adult's life, well, that's doing the unequaled thing in life.
My family's gratefulness goes out to Dr. Benedetti and staff for doing the hard things that allow families to thrive.
