Enjoyed the atmosphere and performance

Wonderful renovations to the church. Delightful Pastor. Congregation quite old, not the building but the community of elders. Seriously needs young people. That said, totally enjoyed the homily and the old fashioned feel to that. Not asking for bells and whistles just more vigor. The group communion was unfamiliar to me and certain changes to the liturgy I found concerning but that’s just me I suppose. The church is historic and of great significance to free Black people in the US. The stained glass includes such “saints” as John Brown and images of “colored” children. The organist feels divinely inspired but the choir not so much. The Fisk Jubilee Singers first performed here in Atlanta and they’re returning soon for a concert. It’s the church of WEB DuBois talented tenth. Google that if you are not familiar with Black History.

Love jazz? First Fridays at the First, Jazz Vespers and jazz Sundays last Sunday of the month. Minister is an Atlanta Treasure!!!

A beautiful experience. The church is one of the oldest in the area serving a predominately African-American congregation. However, the diversity of the church is to be noted. There is a myriad of people who are active in the congregation, and Rev. Dwight Andrews, an Emory professor and jazz musician, never disappoints. Wonderful facility and great people make this an every week experience.
