I am in the beginning stages of Parkinson’s with hand tremors. Dr Freeman prescribed Carbidopa-levodopa. • He did not tell me that Carbidopa does not effectively treat tremors and even worse, that Carbidopa can cause long term side effects (Dyskinesia) equal to or worse than PD. • He did not tell me that after approximately 7 years, Carbidopa is no longer effective. As the PD progresses, you have to keep increasing the dosage, and the side effects are too severe. It is very uncommon for a doctor to criticize a peer, but my current neurologist asked rhetorically ‘you are too young (64) for Carbidopa, because A) it doesn’t effectively treat tremors and B) it runs its course in approximately 7 years. What will you take when you are 71’? I am presently on Xadago and Benztropine for the tremors and after one week I am doing much better. My point is, I did not know these drugs were even available, and that I had options!!
