I am very impress with this place. If it was not so understaffed it would have been the best hospital in Atlanta. The professionals are friendly and dedicated to the people they serve. ( once in a while one slip through the cracks) but for the most part this is the place to go if you need care. Again, I just wish the would be on the up and up with staffing.

I have visited Grady Emergency Room twice in my 15 years of living here. I expected the worse and was surprised with the best. I had asthma problems but because we are in a pandemic I was placed in a tank. A room for folks who cannot breathe. First let me describe my visit from the beginning. You will enter the hospital and have to present your personal bags to security for an inspection. This may not be normal in other hospitals but keep in mind this is a trauma hospital. They see a lot of gun shot wounds, car accidents, and the mental ill. I'm happy for the extra protection. You then have to walk through metal detectors. Do not bring anything metal or it will be confiscated. Next there is a nurse at the door asking how they can help you and immediately take your temperature before you enter the facility. You are then checked in which goes pretty quickly. And then you wait for a triage nurse. The rest is a waiting game but I have been there a total of 3 hours which is good for a busy hospital. All precautions are taken to keep you safe. They are constantly cleaning and spraying as well. I also have to give a special thanks to Dr Atallah who called me back to make sure I got my medication and to see if I was feeling better. It works for me and if I have to go back I will.

I’m here visiting family for the week when I start to come down with a slight fever. (Pre-COVID 19) Ok, no big deal. A few hours later I have a fever of 105 and trouble breathing with chest pain, and my husband rushes me to the nearest emergency room, which is here. We enter the emergency room and see someone to check me in (the waiting room is empty except for maybe one or two other people). I sit down while my husband talks to the lady who checks me right in. We wait for almost an HOUR before I fell asleep from fatigue. I wake up another hour later and I am having so much trouble breathing I almost pass out. The receptionist barely looks in our direction and my husband yells, “Can’t you see she needs a doctor ASAP?” The receptionist gets up and gets a nurse who takes me to a room to take my temperature, blood pressure, etc. She doesn’t asks what my symptoms are before she leaves. Another nurse (a very nice one) comes in with a doctor who says he thinks I have a bad cold. I start to object when the doctor hands me my discharge papers and walks out. Me and my husband are infuriated and go to another hospital across town. I am diagnosed with pneumonia, put on IV antibiotics overnight, and feel 1000 times better. Avoid this hospital at all cause unless you want to be diagnosed with the flu when it is really meningitis!!

I was hit by a drunk driver on October 6 2001 and my life was saved by the wonderful people at Grady. July 27th 2020 I required emergency spinal cord surgery and they once again saved my ability to walk. These people are nothing short of angels.
