I wanted to enroll my three sons (ages 5-8) in martial arts to help them work on the goals of increasing their focus, discipline, and self-confidence. This school seems to only be willing to work with students who already have those skills. The lead instructor doesn't seem to have much patience or bandwidth for redirecting younger students who aren't accustomed to martial arts instruction. My kids didn't receive any guidance to help them feel comfortable within the larger group of their peers who had obviously been attending class for quite some time, and we were told in no uncertain terms that this wasn't the right place for us (in front of a crowded room full of parents, no less -- pretty embarrassing and not at all what you want to hear if you're a mom who came into this looking for a place where her kids would feel accepted, understood, and empowered). We're all disappointed.

Kung fu, Tai Chi, Wing Chun. Master Smith is a wealth of knowledge and experience and instructs classes with patience while conforming to the traditional arts. Adults or kids, stop by today to learn more or start a trial class!

The Northern Shaolin Academy is a good school. I have studied several different styles over the years at several different schools. As a student of this school since 2000 I can state that the instructors are some of the most knowledgeable that I’ve met. As an instructor now myself it gives me joy to see firsthand the progress of the students, and encourages me to strive harder in my own training. In martial arts as with all things you get out of it what you put in. I encourage everyone to visit the school and watch (or participate) in some classes, and most importantly to form their own opinion. Don’t judge by what you read on the internet.

I take Wing Chun classes there and love it. You can go there and have no Martial Arts experience and they are very patient with you. You will feel comfortable there.

My daughter has been taking KungFu lessons here every Tuesday and Thursday for 2 years now and absolutely loves it. She is 13 and has developed a confidence that she did not have prior to enrolling here. Her classmates have become close friends, and she admires her instructors - especially Sifu Nick and Sigung Smith. I have no complaints.
