I recently decided to return to guitar playing after a thirty year break. My goal was to take some basic skills and see how far I could grow with a focus on blues style. I started lessons with Jake in June of 2018. He has a passion for music and an energetic teaching style that motivates me to work on improving each week. Jake has a well structured approach to teaching, starting with understanding your current skill level and goals. Over the past nine months Jake has guided me through a series of lessons, each connected to the next, that have helped me build key foundational skills and continuously improve week over week. He mixes quick wins to build confidence and keeps playing fun with technical challenges to improve technique. Jake is a rare find, a great musician (check out one of his shows if you can) committed to working with others to become the best player they can be.

I only wish I had started sooner. My first lesson with Jake was about 5 years ago. Before that, I wasted years at one of the \guitar schools\ here in Austin. It is rare to find someone great at what they do who can also teach as well as Jake does. I love Hendrix and SRV. I never thought I would be able to play their stuff. Thanks Jake.
Jake is a wonderful musician and phenomenal guitar player. After just 6 months of lessons I have made great improvement. Jake will customize the lessons to fit your needs and abilities. He always makes me feel comfortable and relaxed while encouraging me to do better. If you want to learn how to solo, Jake has designed some excellent riffs that will help you work up to the skills needed for any solos you want to learn. Jake adds a great balance of work and fun into every lessson and I strongly recommend him for any skill level.
I have been taking electric guitar lessons with Jake for almost five years, and that says something about how much I value his instruction and musical companionship. He possesses an incredible knowledge of the blues and rock genres, and he can do virtually anything on the guitar. There are times I just watch in amazement as, within seconds, he picks up a complex riff in a video and plays it faultlessly. For all these reasons, I recommend Jake as a guitar teacher enthusiastically.
I’ve been strumming cords on an acoustic guitar for years, but not progressing and needed some help. I love the blues, but I thought it was out of my reach. I wanted to try something different to break out of my guitar rut so I called Jake. At the start of a lesson Jake would play something and I would think “no way, it’s over my head”. Then Jake would break it down, note by note, and by the end of the lesson I “got it”. It’s like a light bulb going off. Really. I am more or less a beginner and I’m sure his average student is more advanced than I am, but Jake has been an extremely patient teacher and generous in sharing his knowledge He literally grew up in the Austin music scene and has a deep love of rock and electric blues and it shows in his playing and his teaching.
