I enthusiastically recommend Austin Spine. I suffered a frightening spinal debilitation over a 3 week period. Austin Spine got me in almost immediately. I met with Dr Wupperman on a Tuesday and was in surgery on Thursday. I went in having lost the ability to walk and woke after surgery walking. Love my PA Drew and Dr Wupperman. I highly recommend Austin Spine.

If my initial visit sets the bar for future visits, I am stoked! I got my appointment easily online, received a follow up call to ask all those pesky questions to minimize in-office time, very had a very short wait before seeing staff. The only thing I don't recall is the names of the staff I met before seeing the surgeon. With seeing Dr. Wupperman, he was very pleasant, professional and thorough. Even as we stepped out of the room and I asked again about an issue (is it part of this pain or separate), he apologized, escorted me back to the room and completed the assessment. While I am not wanting to have surgery, if it comes to that option, I feel that I will be well cared for.

I liked the PA, but the girl at the front desk has a super negative attitude. She is lack lust in her voice on the phone and when you get there she gives you papers with that same attitude. Rachel my PA was great, but walking out to deal with anyone else make the entire experience make you feel like you don’t want to go back.

I had a 4 level cervical fusion performed roughly 7 weeks ago (end of July 2020). It was a major surgery that I never imagined I would need, I am generally pretty healthy (or thought I was) as a women in my early 50’s and who was running, doing spin and riding my bike to work several days a week, prior to February and the pandemic. Dr Kuhns was recommended to me by a neurosurgeon. I consulted the neurosurgeon because my pinched nerve caused my arm to go numb. Turns out my spinal cord was being compressed, among other issues. While the recovery is not easy, especially the first two weeks, it is going very well and does get easier each week that goes by. The before and after images are impressive to compare. Dr Kuhns, Drew Fredrichs and the rest of the surgery team are amazing I couldn’t be happier with how well it has gone. 6 month update: As a patient I wish I would have understood and really explored the online patient portal. There are very good notes in the system, but I didn’t find them until recently. Get familiar with the portal before surgery. The healing is still going really well, but it was a major surgery and I am realizing it will likely take a year to mostly heal. I still get tired and have to take naps. My neck and back muscles get tight by the end of the day, yet I do think it is slowly improving. I have started noticing numbness in the back of both legs, I think it is more when sitting, but as it is intermittent and there is not any pain so it is hard to pinpoint. We are monitoring it. Next follow up will be for one year at the end of July 2021.

The staff is always friendly and helpful. I entirely trust Dr. Kuhns and his PA's, they have always had my best interest in mind. I would highly recommend this professional!
