J. Leonardi's is a fantastic gem on the east side of Austin that really embodies what the east side used to be. Owned and managed by folks who grew up in the historically black and Latino community that dominated the east side in the past they are keeping the tradition alive and are doing it exceptionally. Highlights here are the brisket and ribs but dont pass up on anything Jerome and his team are doing, especially those sandwiches. When you visit this spot you'll feel like you're not in Austin anymore with how the neighborhood vibe influences everything they do. Give them a visit, they deserve it, and you owe it to yourself to get a taste of what Texas BBQ is really about, community.

Was pleasantly surprised by the food since I hadn't heard of this spot or saw it on any BBQ lists. Really like the sausage. Good brisket and ribs too. I prefer over La Barbecue believe it or not. It will be one of my go to spots in the future. Owner seems a bit stressed at times but we live in trying times and all have personal lives on top of cooking over a pit overnight. highly recommend!
Who needs the joint down the block when you can skip the line and enjoy fine quality meat from this place?! Loved it and will be back the next time I visit Austin.
Crazy good. I've been to Franklin's and it's as good. Brisket even better. Franklin's sent me away at 1pm so I found this. The fact that I didn't have to wait and got meat down to 1/4lb was great. Most important the owner was very friendly. Def. Superstar on the rise
I am 7 months pregnant and they satisfied every BBQ craving I had. My husband and I were so pleasantly surprised and staff was so accommodating and friendly. Highly recommend.
