I was diagnosed with a very aggressive prostate cancer in mid-December 2018. I was referred to Dr. Ruff for a consultation regarding the removal surgery. Once I met with him I didn't hesitate to have it removed as soon as possible. It was the best decision I could have ever made. I've recently completed 8 weeks of daily radiation therapy and what I anticipated to be a horrible experience was the complete opposite. Dr. Ruff and the entire staff at Urology Austin are great and provide exceptional patient service. Words cannot express my gratitude.

There are lots of great healthcare providers, sadly this isn’t one of them. My experience did not involve Ruff himself since he was MIA 45 minutes after my appointment time because “a very important patient “ came in , according to one of his assistants.To make things worse, no one appeared to have read the many forms I completed prior to the appointment or bothered to request my records from another practice ,having previously asked me to release the information, which I did. The staff also thought it reasonable to expect me to wait 45 minutes with NO proactive communication from them. Having walked out I left Ruff a polite message on his cell phone asking him to contact me but did not even receive the curtesy of a response. I am a retired cardiologist and have never encountered such lack of professionalism.
Dr. Ruff is simply the best. I had a partial nephrectomy 2 weeks ago and forget I even had surgery because the recovery was so fast. You will not find a better urologist than him. I can say that as a nurse and as a patient. No need to travel to Houston or Dallas for surgery when we have him here in Austin.
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in mid January of last year. My urologist set me up with a well respected surgeon for prostate removal but due to no one's fault I could not even get in for a consult until late March and didnt know how far out my surgery would be scheduled. Being uncomfortable waiting that long I researched other surgeons. Because of positive reviews and the experience he had I contacted Dr. Ruff. He offered to consult with me that same week and scheduled my surgery soon after. My surgery went very well and I made a remarkable recovery. I suffered virtually no incontinence. I went in for the 3 month check up and my PSA was undetectable. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Ruff and would certainly recommend anyone who has urology issues to consider him for treatment.
Dr. Ruff at Urology Austin restored by faith in the medical establishment. He is friendly, direct, and clear with his communications. You know what to expect in advance so you can be prepared. My wife and I really appreciated that level of information. Best of all, he's a gifted surgeon. My recovery has been much faster than normal, in no small part because of his skills and caring. I recommend Dr. Ruff for anyone with urological issues, especially if surgery is required.
