As an all-things-vintage lover, I have visited many vintage stores, from the type where you dig through trash for hours, to the ultra high end / high price tag shops. I have to say, with confidence, that my experience at Prototype has been unparalleled thus far. The selection is wide and spectacular. Each item is intentionally handpicked so you’ll find many unique but wearable pieces for fair prices. For reference, I bought two 60’s psychedelic-print dresses for 75 and 54. I’ve truly never seen anything like them before. You’d spend the same at Urban Outfitters, for instance, but here you’re buying something one of a kind with a story. I had so much fun trying on a ton of items which is rare given my teeny size. When in Austin, this is the place for your vintage hunt! Thank you ladies for the wonderful experience!

I loved the shirt I bought...it was 25...so cool...however, Immediately when I put it on, it ripped...and then throughout the day it ripped again...and again...three different holes...each growing in size in less than 24 hours of wear...they don't have a return policy and the tshirt I bought was not quality...but the graphics were rad!

got a killer beaded jacket and 70s skirt here for very reasonable prices. This store was very organized for a vintage place, and didn't have the musty smell. They seem to take a lot of time to keep the store organized and well stocked without it being overwhelming. The store also is very nicely decorated.

Bought a sweater here. Was super happy with it but then noticed an hour after I purchased it that it had a giant hole in the sleeve. I was nearby so I brought it back. I think I met with the owner. She offered to give me half my money back. As I did not have a choice due to their no return / exchange policy I took her offer. I do feel that if someone sells damaged goods even by mistake they should take responsibility. A worn 50 year old sweater with a giant hole in the sleeve is not worth 45. I think most people would agree. Or even 22 for that matter. I love the clothes here and selection but do not think I will be coming back.

Average men’s dress or t shirt price is 33 at lowest. Good selection. Maybe better after they get more inventory and before everyone else buys it.
