On Tuesday, July 14, the Governor’s office announced Kitsap County will remain in Phase 2 until the end of the month. If you have registered for any activities this month, a Park District staff member will be contacting you via email about any adjustments or cancellations. If you have questions, please feel free to email
[email protected], or call the Customer Service Desk (206) 842-2302. Aquatic Center Reopening
With the extension of Phase 2, the Aquatic Center will be adapting our reopening plan to allow organized independent lap swimming, water jogging, and water exercise beginning Monday, July 20. During this initial reopen, space will be limited due to the social distancing guidelines outlined by the WA Department of Health and the Governor’s Office Safe Start Plan. Due to the restricted capacity limits (a maximum of 50 people, including staff), pricing has been increased to cover the buildings basic operating expenses to keep the facility open and running. Please see the Aquatic Center website for our reopening plan.
Upon reopening, offerings will be limited in capacity, may be modified and subject to limited availability, or closed, based on direction from health experts and government officials to promote physical distancing. Once you have registered for a recreational program, a Park District staff member will reach out to you with guidance on how the program will be following the new health guidelines.
We reserve the right to cancel any reservation, admission, events, or recreational activity and provide applicable refunds per the Park District’s refund policy.

Updated Camp Grid Revised Class Schedule Updated Summer Swim Lessons 3/20/2020 – The Park District extends the closure of all activities, facilities, and sports fields until May 31.
With the continued health crisis in our area, it is in the best interest of the agency and our community to remain closed. The recommendations from the State Governor’s office, Kitsap Public Health District, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suggest using the closure for proper social distancing and to give our staff and community time to remain healthy. The Park District is also doing its part to support all other public agencies and keep our workforce employed. Park and Trail Updates 6/26/20 – All Parking Areas, Playgrounds, Sport Courts, and Shelters Reopened
Playgrounds, sport courts, and shelters are now open. Playgrounds are open to play, but they will not be cleaned. Users should be notified that they are risking exposure, there will be limited, or no, access to restrooms, and they should bring their own hand sanitizer. Shelter rentals and reservations are now available only for groups of 50 or less. All sport field and sport court user groups must have an approved CV-19 safety plan before they will be allowed to reserve court and field space. All parking areas are reopened. 5/1/2020 – Parking Areas Reopening
Earlier this week, Governor Jay Inslee began easing restrictions within his “Stay Home, Stay Healthy†order. His address lays out the plan to reopening of State parks and loosening limitations on outdoor recreational activities such as day-use of public lands and fishing. It was noted that public gatherings and team sports still are not allowed.
With these revised guidelines, Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District will be reopening most of our parking areas related to the new Governor’s orders. Playgrounds, sports courts, and shelters will remain closed, and a limited number of restrooms will be open.
The following parking areas will remain closed due to playground closures and other contact concerns:
Aaron Avenue Tot Lot Camp Yeomalt – rear parking area Madison Tot Lot Rotary Park – upper parking lot Sands Avenue Ballfield Schel Chelb Park
All visitors are asked to continue following CDC guidelines and the Leave No Trace 7 principles of safe park use. Please recreate responsibly and help us keep parks open.

04/07/2020 – Parks and Trailheads Closed to Vehicle Access
Effective 4/9/2020
On Thursday, April 9, the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District will expand its temporary closure of parking lots to include trailheads and all Park District facilities to align with Gov. Jay Inslee’s ‘Stay Home, Stay Healthy’ order. This includes the closure of the parking lots at Island Center Hall and Seabold Hall.
During the order, which remains in effect through May 4, the Park District encourages people to visit local neighborhood parks, trails, and quiet side streets by walking, biking, rolling, or running while following proper social distancing guidelines. Driving to a Park District property is NOT an essential function outlined in the ‘Stay Home, Stay Healthy’ order.
Bainbridge Island police officers are issuing warning tickets to any vehicles blocking the entrance to a park or parked in an area not designated for parking (e.g., along the street obstructing traffic). Officers will also issue warnings to vehicles illegally parked at trailheads. Repeat violators will be issued a formal ticket. Please report any parking issues to the Bainbridge Island Police Department by calling 911.
We understand the inconvenience and recognize that not everyone will have easy access to parks and trails, but the decision to close all Bainbridge Island parks and trailheads to vehicle access was made to minimize large gatherings and visitation surges. Park District staff and local park neighbors continue to observe large gatherings, overflowing parking lots, and people not following the social distancing guidelines established by health professionals.
The City of Bainbridge Island and the Park District support the safe use of parks during this public health emergency, and we recognize the community’s need to enjoy the benefits of nature during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our job, both Park District and City, is to support the intent of the Governor’s orders as fully as possible, despite the many inconveniences and frustrations. We are committed to slowing the spread of COVID-19 and hope that our community will respect the temporary changes put in place.
The park changes will remain in place throughout the duration of the Governor’s ‘Stay Home, Stay Healthy’ order.
Please remember: If you take a car, the park is too far! Recreate responsibly. Walk, ride, or roll from home.
04/02/2020 – Status of City & Park District parks
During the ‘Stay Home, Stay Healthy’ order, The Park District encourages people to visit parks by walking, biking, rolling, or running, and to continue following social distancing guidelines. At this time, vehicles are not allowed in parks. The City of Bainbridge Island and the Park District supports the safe use of parks during this public health emergency.
Beginning March 30, police officers will be issuing warning tickets to anyone whose vehicle is blocking the entrance to a park and/or parked in an area not designated for parking (e.g. along the street).
We understand the inconvenience and recognize that not everyone will have easy access to parks, but the decision to close all Bainbridge Island parks to vehicle access was made in order to minimize large gatherings. In the days leading up to this decision, Park District staff observed large gatherings, overflowing parking lots, and people not following the social distancing guidelines established by health professionals. We are committed to slowing the spread of COVID-19 and hope that our community will respect the temporary changes put in place.
The park changes will remain in place throughout the duration of the Governor’s ’Stay Home, Stay Healthy’ order.
Please remember: If you take a car, the park is too far! Recreate responsibly. Walk, ride, or roll from home.
Stay Home, Stay Healthy We continue to support Gov. Jay Inslee’s ‘Stay Home, Stay Healthy’ order, requesting all Washington residents stay home to reduce physical interaction and help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community. The order will remain in effect until May 4. This order could possibly be extended. To learn what is considered an essential service, read the statewide order here.

Additionally, all bathrooms, playgrounds, camping areas, dog parks, disc golf, tennis and pickleball courts, water drinking stations, and sports fields will be closed during this period for the safety of our users and staff. GUIDELINES FOR VISITING PARKS DURING COVID-19
Parks remain open for visitors to drive, walk, cycle, and enjoy nature. The Park District is taking additional actions to support Gov. Jay Inslee’s recent orders to discourage groups from gathering, as well as to address the workload placed on the Park District.
The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has released a statement regarding Social Distancing in Public Parks and Trail, which supports the safe use of parks and open spaces. It will be upon the community to take responsibility for the following:
Refrain from using parks or trails if you are exhibiting symptoms of an illness. Follow CDC’s guidance on personal hygiene before and during the use of parks or trails. Observe CDC’s minimum recommended social distancing of 6 feet from other individuals at all times. If this is not possible, users should find an alternate location or depart that space. While on narrow trails, warn other users of your presence as you pass, and step aside to let others pass. Follow all local ordinances and guidelines for park and trail use. Trails maps can be found by park, or a complete trail map of all parks can be found here. For questions about parks or trails, contact
[email protected].
