I highly recommend a sailing trip with Captain Peter Bloch on the Bertha Stern. Safety first - Captain Bloch has an expertise and skill that is evident from the moment we arrived. His joyful personality immediately puts you at ease and contributes greatly to the overall positive atmosphere on the boat. We sailed to islands, caves, and incredible beaches. We docked in private, scenic areas suitable for sunset beach walks or deck-top startgazing. Meals were always delicious, healthy and thoughtfully prepared. I can't say enough about our family outing on the Bertha Stern. We and our teenagers will gladly go again!

I was introduced to sailing in the Apostle Islands by Captain Peter several decades ago and have been blessed with the opportunity to sail with him on numerous memorable trips ever since. Captain Peter is very skilled as a operator so you can be assured he will follow safe seamanship. I have always found that 2-3 days sailing is as refreshing as a week at a resort setting. Bertha Stern is a very responsive and fun sailboat to sail in all weather conditions and has been continually updated with new equipment. Give Captain Peter a chance to " set the hook" on a new tradition.
If you have kids, I very strongly recommend you bring them on this beautiful boat. It's an experience that no kid should miss out on. The islands are lovely, the boat is spacious and the captain is phenomenal. Even if you don't have kids, I would recommend this to anyone.
Have been on several weekend trips. Captn Bloch keeps a very comfortable boat. Galley is very functional and the food is great! The Island shore trips have all been without incident and a real treat with his commentary of same. Highly recommend this activity.
What a delicious way to get away from it all! The Apostle Islands are a glorious treat and there’s no better way to experience them than on the inimitable Bertha Stern. Peter is a delightful, thoughtful and knowledgeable captain who loves to share this special part of the world with others. He brings you to all sorts of cool caves, beaches and hiking areas, he’s a natural in the kitchen churning out great meals, and his boat is comfortable and cozy with multiple hang out and sleeping areas inside and out. Love the hammock! After several trips both with and without our kids, I can honestly say that Peter and his boat are a class act. No matter the weather, you’re always in good and safe hands with Cap’n Bloch!
We had so much fun on this trip. The boat was spacious, safe and comfortable. The captain had over 40 years experience sailing and made us feel very comfortable. We have returned many seasons and have passed his name along to our friends!
Captain Peter's sailing experience and knowledge of the Apostle Islands is exceptional. We've made it an annual summer tradition to get over to Bayfield from Minneapolis and now Northern Minnesota- there's just no better way to explore the incredible beauty than by boat. Peter knows all the best beaches and hikes and he goes the extra nautical mile to make every trip a memorable one. Bertha Stern is comfortable and sound. It's our son's all time favorite getaway and we didn't hesitate to bring our 3-month-old daughter along one year!
This truly was 'superior' sailing. Captain Peter is incredibly knowledgable about Lake Superior, the islands, the natural habitats, the winds, and sailing itself. What an education as well as an experience! Plus , he is alot of fun. The islands remind me of the Caribbean; so peaceful. The whole family loved the hiking, rock climbing, and hanging on the beaches. Don't miss this rich adventure!
