Mailed my passport and forms for a recent name change in November 2020 and still have not received any information back. Every time I get through on the phone (after a 45 minute hold) the employees are very rude and unempathetic. Yes, we are in the middle of a pandemic, but you're not the Only ones working and trying to deal with it. Still waiting and things like financial aid for school and bank information have been on HOLD due to this. VERY frustrating. Update: 3 months later. Called today and spoke with a nice young woman (Bummed I didn't get their name) and they said things were scanned in and I should be getting my papers in the next few weeks. Fingers crossed.

Went at 810 am on a Friday and there were only a couple people ahead of me but by 830 it was quite a big line. It opened at 9 and I was done by 920. I recommend other people do the same to save some time

I eloped in September 2020. Because of COVID we had to cancel our wedding. Since everything is by mail I had to mail in my passport along with a copy of my wedding certificate and SS-5 form for a new social security card for my name change. I mailed my documentation certified mail receipt mid November 2020. It's now end of January and I still haven't received my new social security card and passport back (roughly 9 weeks since mailing). I have my W2 and am ready to file my taxes, but now am stuck in this horrible limbo of not being able to file because of my name change. Do I file under my new name that may not even be possibly updated after taxes is cut off or under my maiden name? I've tried to call several times to get an update of the processing of my new social security card for my name change and most of the time I receive a busy signal. When I can get through I'm put on hold but then am disconnected usually about 30 minutes after. I honestly wouldn't have bothered changing my name until after the pandemic...I should've known with how long it was to receive my marriage certificate. Anyways I'm giving 3 stars because I understand things are probably overwhelming because of the pandemic. I just need to vent and really just want to talk to someone at the office! Edit: After almost 3 months I checked ssa.gov I noticed that my name was changed. I was able to file my taxes with my new married name, a big WIN! However, I still haven't received my new SSC and passport in the mail. Really hope to get these documents back soon so I can start changing my drivers license, passport, ect. Will update accordingly.

I sent in my passport at the beginning of December for an SSN verification of citizenship. It's now the middle of January and I still have not received the passport back. I've tried calling as others have stated, but you are just kept on hold and no one can answer the key question of when your document will be returned. It would be great to know what their current processing time is, but this information is not made available. What a mess!

I called because they have gone MONTHS without returning my passport and birth documents to me. I had the displeasure of speaking with someone named Barbara on the phone who was borderline yelling at me for asking her simple questions like \when should I expect my documents to be mailed back to me?\ and \where are my documents now?\. All she did was say \I DON'T KNOW!\ I get it, you don't know, but can you not help me find the answer? Or do you get paid to say \I don't know\ She was completely unprofessional and was of no help. It's clear you don't need a brain to work at this place. My dog would do a better job running this place.
