This place. So good. Best sandwich I’ve had in a long time. Super tasty and satisfying without being heavy. Also, the people that work there are really sweet. Go there. It’s great!

Not only the best vegan bagel cream cheese I’ve ever had, but best one overall!! I got the jalapeño bagel and scallion cream cheese. Cinnamon roll and chicken salad sandwich were also super good.

The not-lox bagel is AMAZING. The vegan smoked "salmon" made out of carrots is so good!! Loved the matzo ball soup too (perfect fluffy matzo balls). Happy to support this locally owned Jewish establishment. Can't wait to come back and try more items. :)

The vegan egg, cheese, and bacon, sandwich is perfect. Highly recommend this spot for a quick meal on the way to the airport or after picking up a hungry friend from their flight!

Yummy bagels to be had here! I came by early to make sure I had a full selection of bagels. Ordered 1/2 dozen; onion, plain, garlic and sea salt and veggie schmear. Really enjoyed my bagel when I got home and made it.

Probably the best bagels in Portland, and to be fair, this is very subjective... these are much more yeasty than the NY and LA bagels I grew up eating, and much chewier and heavier in texture. Selection is somewhat limited, and still waiting for a bialy. I could do without all the political stickers and signage covering the windows and inside, but then again, this is typical for Portland. Friendly staff, somewhat pricey but still the closest to the bagels I'm looking for.

I noticed the matzo ball soup sign in their window yesterday from the Safeway parking lot. Made my way there today to try the soup, and I am beyond elated that I have found a stellar matzo ball soup right here in NE Portland!! When I lived in Los Angeles, there were quite a few amazing Jewish delis that had a mean matzo ball soup... I have dreamt of those days, and the Ben and Esther matzo ball soup brings me back--and oh the joy!!!! I took a bowl to my 87 year old friend today. It was his first time having matzo ball soup. He remarked on how great it was several times.... And I was so pleased he had an honest and utterly delicious matzo ball soup the day before his 88th birthday. If you love good matzo ball soup, this place is it. And if you've never had matzo ball soup before, don't wait much longer. Go to Ben and Esther's and you will know a new comfort food that you just might fall madly in love with like I did. Thank you Ben and Esther's for giving me back my lost love!!!

Man I gotta say, this place used to be great but at some point they started serving only vegan bacon, with no warning, and the staff was so insanely slow and gave me no warning my order for ONE BAGEL SANDWICH was going to take 45 minutes while I stood and waited (listening to terrible what I think is punk music? Idk, I'm old) for what I had no idea was going to be a VEGAN bacon and egg sandwich. Can you imagine the horror? Waiting 45 minutes for a breakfast sandwich to open it and see vegan bacon?! Two stars because the bagels are pretty good, but with the extremely slow service and sudden change to vegetarian without a warning...gotta go low rating.
