Online reviews (Yelp, etc.) are extremely important to Harry, so I'll respect that and leave a five star Google Review here. He gave me some lessons at home in 2014, but we were not a good match. He didn't let me play at all. Rather, he ended up pushing me off the bench half the time and playing my piano himself. Little information was transferred and I had to stop the weekly session. Harry had cotton earplugs in which made me feel like he wasn't quite with me half the time. If you're seeing this, Harry, I wish you all the best teaching piano in Berkeley.

I'm a sax player with some piano training. Harry gave me a broader set of tools to use in my playing. He really took me to the next level. Ten years later I still rely heavily on the voicings and approach he taught me. I miss studying with Harry.

I don't think I have to note that most jazz musicians are simply awful at teaching anything to anyone. Most of them show you what they do, not how to approach music yourself. Harry is the great exception - a jazz musician with an analytic mind that can identify the core approach to playing music, break it down into simplest terms and explain it clearly. If you want to learn how to improvise in jazz, Harry will get you there. Todd J. Lorenz, M.D.

Harry tailors his piano lessons to your needs. He asks questions and listens to your answers to see what it is you really are trying to achieve. He has helped demystify complex sheet music, breaking it down to the simpliest elements to make learning and understanding the music easier. He has step by step methods to learn jazz from the most beginning level to advanced playing, including theory and learning how to solo. Harry is also knowledgeable about many aspects of music production, as he keeps abreast through research on the latest electronic keyboards and amplifiers. He has advised me on many keyboard purchases and other equipment needed for the rock bands I've played in. I recommend that anyone wishing to enhance their progress, knowledge, and enjoyment of music take lessons with Harry.

Harry has been my piano teacher for almost 10 years. I took lessons in grade and high school and wanted to continue learning as an adult. The best way to learn music is to listen to other musicians. Harry listens to many musicians, analyzes their styles and techniques, and then shares those techniques and styles in each lesson. I've been learning mainly jazz standards and Harry introduced me to various techniques and styles applied by Kenny Baron, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Mal Waldron, Hampton Hawes, Brad Mehldau, and many other renowned jazz pianists. Each lesson is unique and challenging.
