The Midwifery group is amazing! They are so kind, positive, educated, and made me feel like I was in good hands. I didn't enjoy meeting any of the OB's, so I'm glad I transferred to the Midwife group. They do have two locations (Bethesda, GW hospital). L&D happens at the hospital only.

This is a good practice, I’ve been with them for multiple pregnancies. The Bethesda location is my favorite. It’s much quicker to get lab work done here than at the other GW Midwives locations and parking is easier.
I had a wonderful experience with these midwives - especially Nora - in 2016. They helped me to have a successful VBAC, even when I had to be induced, and had some risk factors. I was given pitocin on a mobile drip, increased slowly. I had a full day of pitocin and labor and was able to move and labor as I wanted. With the help of the midwives, my husband, and a doula I managed without pain medication and it was a wonderful experience. I am grateful to them for believing in me, for accepting me despite some risk factors and allowing me to try for the delivery and birth experience I wanted (when other doctors suggested repeat c-section). They were even willing to do a version when the baby ended up breech with just a couple of weeks to go - but some home flipping methods worked! I hope everyone finds a supportive practice that enables them to have the pregnancy and birth experience they want. After an emergency c-section and NICU baby with my first, my experience with GW Midwives was a gift and I treasure the birth experience.
I transferred my care to the GW downtown location at 18 weeks after moving from New Orleans. I have been extremely disappointed with every interaction. They were supposed to call me for an appointment upon receiving my transfer paperwork, which never happened. Trying to contact the office is almost impossible. After being on hold for an hour with the call center, I was able to get an appointment (after having my paperwork faxed over 2 weeks prior). When arriving at the office, they informed me they did not have an appointment for me. I was able to schedule a first-time appointment in-person. My first appointment with a midwife consisted of a rushed series of questions - it turns out she was not even aware of my transfer paperwork so it was all a waste of time. When I asked for a direct number in case of an emergency, they said I would have to call their call center which they are aware can take up to an hour to answer. So it seems calling 911 if I have an immediate concern about my pregnancy is my best option. Overall, very impersonal and cold. At 21 weeks, I am looking for home birth options.
I love the Bethesda GW practice but the lab tech is absolutely impossible and incompetent. She moves at the speed of molasses and is completely inflexible. When I came for my diabetes screening she refused to take me Ben though I was scheduled at that time. She couldn’t take me because she had a lunch break from 10:30-1pm. Who needs a 2 1/2 hour lunch break. I had to cancel clients for work for nothing and I’m so turned off.
