The NEI does outstanding research in eye disease that helps protect the public from visual disability and blindness. Notable studies, eye doctors use everyday to diagnose and treat patients, include the Age-Related Eye Disease Study for macular degeneration and Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study for diabetic retinopathy. There are many more. NEI has helped me be a better doctor and help thousands of patients avoid blindness. Highly recommend.
