This is a place of learning for the whole child. The academics are addressed while the students are learning to do for themselves and how to treat themselves and others with respect. The learning environment begins in the indoor classroom where the children work together as a well oiled machine, doing works that teach them to invest whole-heartedly in the school. The outdoor classroom, greenhouse and three distinct biomes of the meadow, forest and pond, are all part of the routines for the learners. Parents are invested and welcoming, teachers are extremely knowledgeable about how children grow and learn and encourage parents to include children in the household routines. My daughter loves school days, and I quote, \I love going to school!\ There is an undeniable comfort in hearing that from a 3 year old. This school epitomizes Dr. Montessori's true vision of an educational environment.

My daughters have been attending this school since they were old enough to first participate in the Tender-Two's program (with the wonderful Ms. Anni) and have really blossomed under the care of the school's directress, Mrs. Gress, and the elementary teacher Mrs. Victoria Anyone interested in this school should start by looking into just what the Montessori method is and what its goals are. Maybe the most striking aspect of this method (for this public school grad) is the amount of faith that the faculty have in the children to learn and grow. VMS at Bluemont is a wonderful community that we have been profoundly fortunate to be a part of, and we have seen the impact of the school on the way our girls conduct themselves. I know the school is having an effect when I see the my girls' classmates in a social setting with other kids. The contrast can be pretty remarkable. A great school that gives kids a great start on becoming great people.
My boys are now elementary students at VMS, and have been at the school since just before their 3rd birthdays (over 6 years for my oldest!) I am so impressed with what they have learned at the school. I am constantly told by strangers and family members that I have kind, inquisitive, curious, and respectful children - and I give the Montessori method at VMS a big part of the credit. The individual attention the boys receive, the ample outdoor playtime, the creative and academic challenges, and the continual teaching on how to manage their time and explore their interests has made the school a blessing in our lives. The preschool and kindergarten years were a wonderful time for my boys at the school, and they are really coming into their own in the elementary program. I encourage any parent to go for a tour and see what makes this school different. Your children will thank you!
