This place is interesting. Still trying to figure out what it is.

I had an absolutely fantastic experience this evening. The food was executed with a thoughtfulness and care that only true professionals can achieve. Regardless of who actually made my dish, I have no doubt it was done by someone who gives a shoot- which makes things taste all the better. The service and welcome I received was beyond expectation. I showed up alone, and left with what feels like new friendships. It turns out if you show up to a restaurant with a smile and eagerness to truly engage you leave with an amazing experience. Just sayin.

Mixed feelings. We were contacted for a seat at the kitchen counter. When arriving we we just seated in the restaurant. They do not have one dedicated waiter (not a problem). And it was super cold, that changed over the evening for the better. also a lot of cooking smells due to the open kitchen. We ordered a dish from each theme. The buns were really nice. So were the tartare (although it missed something) and the tuna. Plates came out super fast. Apparently they are all ordered at once and to be served when finished. Way to fast for our liking. We had some more plates (no pictures). We took the rice with something and then the chicken also came with rice. We ended up with lots of rice. I’m not a rice fan but they make it sounds so special as we tried. I was not blown away. They were out of the foie gras. Real bummer. We took the chicken which was pretty black (see pic). Overall it was ok. Not sure if we would go back though.

I probably would have given dinner a 3 if not for the amazing brussel sprouts. The cocktails were decent. Everything else was fine but I expected more for the price. Definitely regret not trying the pancake and the chicken.

Tasty tuna, Shishito pepper, BBQ chicken, and Bluefin Tuna. Also recommend Aperol passionfruit cocktail! Food was delicious, ambiance could use improvement: lighting & decor. Super friendly staff!

We were a party of 3 with a reservation for dinner at Whaling in Oklahoma. The staff seated us right away and were wonderful with helping us turn down the AC since our table basically felt like we were in the Arctic. We definitely over-ordered but when we're trying somewhere new we like to get a complete feel of the restaurant. The fried artichokes with yuzu were outstanding! We also ordered charred snap peas, spring lamb dumplings, chicken breast robata, kurobuta sausages, crispy skin (that wasn't so crispy), meatball and egg yolk, spicy rice cakes, and I believe it was turkey leg. Everything was well seasoned and served hot. I can't wait to return!

This place is hidden gem! Such good japanese food and vibes. The service was also very good as well. You must order broth-y udon, coal charred cabbage, katsu sando, and chicken skin skewers! They were all phenomenal. It now is one of my favorite restaurants in Boston!
