The Worst Department in all the five Borough, I have buildings all over the five borough and its very easy to get help, but Brooklyn DOB is 20 times worst then DMV. They dont want to help you at all. I went in as a Homeowner to ask them question about Paperwork and why its taking so long. They told me that contact your architect for the information. Why should i contact them, if im here asking you a simple question. all you had to do is look it up on the computer and tell me. Everyone in this DOB need to be fired or reassigned to the other DOB. They are getting to Comfortable here. There is no Respect for Homeowner here.

Frank Marchiano sent an investigator out to confirm removed fire staircase and fire exits. Now he will not answer the phone or speak to me in person but he has to do something about it and chooses not too. I need now to go back to the DOI.

Assisted a homeowner to file a letter of no objection, cost: 100.00 and was told he would receive a response within 10 days. 4 months transpire with no response, so we decided go down and pull the entire file which they could not locate. The only file they could find a record of was a half address, and they won't be able physically produce that file for two weeks. We also find out they sent a denial letter to the wrong address with an incomplete block / lot number and incorrect BIN. (I miss the old days when you could physically pull the file yourself). We then head over to the commissioners office where I was directed to file a PER 11 followed by submitting it through the email address provided on the website. Decided to attend homeowners night, only to be told \that advice is incorrect\ and to gather all documents and state my case in a letter (already planned to do so in addition to adding my time and expense reimbursement sheet). If you're doing this for the first time, I suggest hiring an Expediter and follow his foot steps in order to do it yourself the next time for anything related, and save yourself the aggravation.

Horrible place. The building itself is a dump and needs to be overhauled. Security lines to enter building. The people who work here are mostly full of the wrong information causing you to have to return repeatedly. The whole feel of the place feels like you are at some third world border crossing detainment facility.

We went to DOB when our request for inspection submitted by the architect was not getting a response. My mother went in person and received all necessary help. After reading the reviews, we were prepared for some nightmare experience, but it was really far from that. Anthony was especially helpful. He looked up our case, fixed some sort of a glitch, calmed us down and explained what happens during the inspection process (something I had a hard time figuring out from reading online). As a result, the inspection went smoothly. We cannot thank him enough!
