If you love tea and pottery, this is THE place for you. This is a very cute tea house. All the tea are imported from Japan, hand picked by tea pickers, it is also a pottery shop selling hand made tea cups, bowls and sake cups. Every single piece is unique. The owner is very knowledgeable on different kinds of tea so even if you are not tea lover, it is worth to climb a few steps to step into this little zen place and learn a bit about tea. I find it very interesting.

Very nice shop! The staff is wonderful and I love the atmosphere, if you have trouble with stairs a bit of a warning, you have to walk up a flight of them. However the walk is worth it for some of the finest Japanese tea you will find without going to Japan itself! Apart from their tea and ceramics they also sell lovely postcards and Japanese incense, for a pricey treat the aged owlswood is well worth the price!
We received the wrong order. Upon contacting the company we were sent a label that we had to print off to return the wrong item before receiving our correct order. I feel concerned that we are returning a food product that will be resold. Also, a bit inconvenient that we have to print off the return label ourselves prior to receiving our correct order. I am concerned that the products we received may be returns from another customer.
I attended Kettl's houjicha tea roasting class with a friend, and it was above and beyond. Zach customized the class on the fly to reflect our interests (houjicha and matcha). We started with three houjichas with different roasting profiles to compare and contrast - and then, because we're heavy tea drinkers, we also got to try a competition grade sencha (and some matcha sweets). We also did a taste-off between a couple of different matchas before finishing the class by roasting our own houjicha. Amazing experience - I'll be back for more classes and more tea!
My wife and I were able to stop by and meet Zach. He's incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and passionate. It seems as though he has met all the top producers from Kyushu and Uji. The selections of tea available for purchase are unlike anywhere I've ever seen outside of Japan. I can't wait to come back the next time I'm in NYC.
Kettl is an amazing place with some of the best teas from Japan. Kettl has tea at various price points and they are all excellent. The friendly staff will give you recommendations if you need help. Even people who visit here regularly need help since new teas are always arriving. So don't be afraid to ask. The store also has an excellent collection of Japanese ceramics. Right now Uji Hikari Matcha is one of my favorite matcha that they are carrying right now. Per-serving price similar to what you will pay for a coffee. I usually buy Genmaimatcha Tea Bags & Soba Cha for people as gifts. Nobody has complained and love both of those tea. Genmaimatcha with the added matcha gives the tea a nice flavor profile. The Soba Cha is caffeine free. Sometimes I sprinkle the soba cha on my yogurt in the morning. Of course if the Matcha chocolate is in stock that is a must buy. If you can not visit the website is excellent for online ordering with tasting notes for each tea. The teas are shipped directly from Japan.
I've been a fan of this place for a while now. Really can't say enough good things about the quality of the tea, the price point, and the welcoming and knowledgeable staff. They also offer classes-- some friends and I took one recently and we had a total blast. Highly recommend.
