Efficient, empathetic, and so talented. Dr. Ruffin is such an impressive person, and he took great care of my 6yo son who was having hearing/sleeping problems. Ear tubes adenoidectomy tonsilectomy. Great results. My son ADORES him, he's our hero.

Dr. Ruffin was the perfect match for my son who suddenly lost his hearing in his right ear last year and was recently implanted with a cochlear implant. With first-hand experience as both an ear surgeon and an implant recipient himself, he could relate to my child in a way that no other doctor could. And as a parent, he helped me to understand how to best support my child as he navigates this long journey of learning to hear again. Dr. Ruffin is caring, candid, personable, and follows up with you, not necessarily waiting for your call. He is also a role model that anyone with hearing loss can look to and see that with hard work and patience, you can can still do anything you want in life. I can't recommend him highly enough.
I highly recommend Dr. Ruffin. He took the time to explain the possible causes of my tinnitus and hearing loss. More importantly, he gave me some direction and insight on how to navigate my hearing loss in my day-to-day life!
Dr. Ruffin preformed a cochlear implant surgery for me and my experiences with him and the South Seattle Otolaryngology has been fabulous. I live in Canada meaning Dr. Ruffin and his colleagues from South Seattle Otolaryngology has to divert from their usual administrative process and create a brand-new path for me as a foreign patient. There were quite a few head scratching moments but they have always been professional and helpful. My surgery went smoothly and I feel well enough to visit the Space Needle the next morning! Dr. Ruffin told me he would try to preserve my residual hearing in my pre-op appointment. I didn't have much hope on it because I know it can be very tricky. Surprisingly, I heard water hitting my ear when I took my first post op shower! I then put my old hearing aid on and found my residual hearing was almost on par with the pre op level! Dr. Ruffin has been very easy to reach out to for my questions and concerns all the time, and he is very knowledgeable. In addition to his medical training and surgical experiences, Dr. Ruffin himself is a bi-lateral cochlear implant recipient, which makes him a very unique cochlear implant surgeon who went through the entire hearing journey that a cochlear implant candidate would have to go through. Dr. Ruffin is passionate about what he does and I am so grateful having him as my cochlear implant specialist.
My experience with Dr. Ruffin was fabulous. I recently moved to the east coast and noticed inflamed lymph nodes on my neck. I struggled to get in with a specialist in my new city since I didn't have a PCP or a referral there yet. I was back in Seattle visiting family for a few days and was able to get a last minute appointment with Dr. Ruffin, who graciously made time during a holiday week given my concerns. Dr. Ruffin performed a very thorough exam and did a great job explaining my symptoms and next steps. Not only was my visit with him helpful, but he went above and beyond and made calls in my new hometown city to get me in with a specialist upon returning to continue my treatment. He checked in with me to see how things were progressing and always responded in a timely manner when I reached out to him on the portal. He even took the time to call me on the phone to explain test results and suggested next steps, in addition to responding via email. I truly appreciate his consultative approach, the ongoing support and care that I received while being across the country, and his calm, collected, supportive demeanor. It is also very encouraging to have a doctor who is a thought leader in his field. Dr. Ruffin is clearly very passionate about advancing his profession forward through his various speaking engagements and research initiatives. As a congenitally deaf person himself, he has a level of empathy and expertise that is unparalleled. I would highly recommend Dr. Ruffin!
