Staff was very helpful and caring even in a very busy time. Treated me with respect and kindness through the whole process.

We were seen quickly and the staff (Dr Hendrix and Darinka the nurse) were very caring. They were thorough with their tests and provided good follow up instructions and a referral to a specialist for a follow-up. I hope we don’t need another ER visit, but if we do, I’ll definitely come here again.

Usually I’m very patient. But after I’ve been waiting for 4 plus hours for a room after being seen in triage already I got frustrated. They couldn’t give you an estimate wait time and those whom came after me were taken back before I did. The lobby wasn’t full. They didn’t bother to check if you’ve been help already. And staff was very unprofessional sitting there gossiping about personal life.

Real Review

As a healthcare professional it’s important to put your work-self aside, and remember you are working with a real person going through real challenges. Rapport and trust can be built if you show empathy, compassion, and understanding with a non-judgmental approach. This will help minimize, or avoid altogether, miscommunication, mistrust, and unnecessary injuries and help you determine what needs the patient has. Family members also need the same approach. Simple education is very important. Leave out the shop talk, unless absolutely necessary, and then be prepared to explain any terms or procedures that may be difficult to understand — without talking down to the patient and family members. Take it slow and have patience. Imagine yourself or your loved one going through the same thing. This will increase your empathy greatly. At the opposite end of the spectrum, do not leave the patient and/or the family members in the dark about the situation. This can cause anxiety to skyrocket and tempers too flare. Sadly Highline Hospital staff have no type of respect for others.
