Professionals and courteous as police departments go. I had items stolen from me and BUPD caught the thief and recovered my belongings. I have lived in several large cities as a teen and young adult and had never had anything resolved from a crime that was committed weather it be a vandalism or my car being broken into. BUPD recovered my property and gave me the option if I wanted to charge the thief with a crime or have student affairs deal with them. I pressed charges.

I called for a police escort to get back to my dorm, which was a mile away and it was late at night in the snow/ice. They told me that they were unable to give me a ride because they were busy. Glad to know that they care about the safety of their students. Very disappointed in their service and glad that I made it back to my dorm okay.

They could not be bothered to direct tradfic outside the parking garage on commencement day. Just really poor event planning. Writing so hopefully they improve

Unhelpful and rude. At one point kicked my friends and I off campus for playing by a fountain. They unjustly threatened to cuff all of my friends and I and charge us with trespassing (which doesn’t even make sense) claiming the only reason they didn’t was because they didn’t have enough handcuffs. They then stated that they had cameras all over campus, which we knew, understood, and didn’t care considering we hadn’t done anything illegal. My friends and I went home and when I later went to the station to complain they were unhelpful and didn’t do anything. In other instances they’ve refused to do anything about college kids selling teenagers drugs directly outside their station, or to deal with noise complaints coming from butler students partying at 3 AM a few houses next to their station.

This department has “been really trying” to improve relations with the students. In reality, the chief and his officers talk up false hope of improving relations just to target and harass students. Any concerns you have will be dismissed with zero actual thought going towards the concerns. The chief himself acts like he cares but he’s more worried about protecting his own corrupt force then actually analyzing the students concerns who they are supposed to be protecting and serving. Coffee with a Cop seems more like a PR stunt for the department to help ease student’s worries while behind the scenes the department runs the same way it has for years targeting college students who aren’t fully aware of their rights. The cops consistently lie to students and on reports. Violent crimes on campus seem to be swept under the table. Not one of the dawg alerts they send out about people with guns actually ends in an arrest of the suspect. The amount of shootings are even downplayed by the chief with him even denying a shooting that was announced from dawg alerts his department sent out. Until BUPD decides to focus on violent crimes that put the entire campus in a sphere of danger, students will continue to question on what’s more dangerous: the criminals with guns or the corrupt cops with limitless power.
