I loaded an aggregate called Caldon 200 at BPI Inc. McKees Rocks, Pa. to deliver to TimkenSteel Corporation Canton, Ohio. The bills said Faircrest Plant so that's where I went. After pulling on the scale and going in the office Theresa Frederick who is a charming young woman said that I was to take it to the Harrison Plant which is three or four miles away which I did. All bulk commodities received at Harrison must be unloaded by controlled flow. That involves dumping into a hopper that feeds a conveyor belt that fills boxes that are transported by fork lifts. When the conveyor is stopped to move the full box and replace it with an empty you must shut the small door in the tailgate to prevent the hopper from overflowing. The driver must remain there to stop and start the flow as needed. It can take from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the volume of the material. Heavy materials such as alloys are low volume while lighter materials like coal and coke are high volume loads and take the longest to unload. When I arrived there were three trucks waiting to unload so I was there for over two hours and the last to leave. In fact by the time I was ready to leave the security guard had left and the gate was closed. I had to call security HQ down the street from a phone box in order to have the gate opened so I could exit. Oh well, its all in a days work I guess!
