This place is so worth the visit. Rim trail and trail to the bottom of volcano are great but WINDY and STEEP. Be prepared - but the views are beautiful. We also did the La Boca grail and it was pretty but felt longer than it was and didn't have the same spectacular views, however its a nice hike WHEN it's not muddy. I highly recommend taking a pit stop at this amazing monument.

We stopped by on a whim while on a road trip and even though we were only there for 30 minutes it was one of our most memorable stops. Nick was working in the visitor center and was an absolute joy to speak with. He is so clearly passionate about what he does and it was a pleasure to watch him enthusiastically talk about the night sky. His passion is infectious and we can't wait to come back.

Nice spot not to far off the Interstate. Interesting and beautiful spot with great views. Shaded picnic areas too.

Had no idea this National Monument existed until we stumbled upon it on a road trip. Pretty awesome that you can go down into the caldera. Photo is from the rim looking down into the caldera.
