We were going to foster dogs but fell in love with our first foster. The process from becoming a foster and then an adopter went very smooth. They do such a wonderful job rescuing these precious pups/dogs and getting them to their forever home. Truly angels at work. Lynette and Jeff
While I know they will reply to this with an explanation on their end, I'd like to simply say that they do NOT communicate very well. I recognize this is a volunteer based organization and people's time is valuable, but you would have thought I was an immature 13 y/o kid trying to adopt a dog. I own my home, I have a large yard, I have an 8 y/o mature dog, I work from home, I'm a dog walker (220 5-star reviews), and I'm passionate about rescuing animals. I reached out in January regarding a dog they shared on their Instagram stories who was being transported to Colorado from Texas. I text the adoption person instantly (recognizing this pup needed to still be intaked) and let her know my interest for as SOON as he would be available to adopt. Unfortunately, a week passed, another week, and another, and another. I checked every single day for him to be listed, but kept my outreach minimal to not disturb the adoption agent......the original foster from HOUSTON let me know he had already been adopted a long time ago by the foster. I am incredibly happy he is safe and well taken care of, but the blatant disrespect and disregard for the potential adopter was appalling. I have discontinued any support for the rescue and wish them well in their continued endeavor rescuing and fostering these animals.
My fiance and I have been talking about getting a puppy for a couple years. We finally decided to hop on the 2020 train and adopt from Douglas County Canine Rescue. The application was extensive, but it's one of the many reasons why were so happy to go through Douglas County Canine Rescue. From Amy, who was our foster mom, to our scheduler, to the owner and coordinators, it is very clear they REALLY care about these pups and work very hard to protect and love them. Looking at her paper work, our puppy, Abby (foster name Cherri), had been through A LOT in her life already - moving from shelters New Mexico to Texas to Colorado only in a matter of 4 months. She could have developed to be bitter/scared/angry/aggressive but she came to our home with nothing but snuggles and happiness. I think that speaks VOLUMES to the program Douglas County Canine Rescue puts in place with their foster system. They have a process in place that not only gives puppies from high kill shelters a second chance, but nurtures them through fostering to be well adjusted and feel safe/loved so they have a better chance at staying in a fur-ever home. The only comment I will say is that the scheduler was not very patient/friendly with us when we were trying to see puppies/decide who to adopt. I understand that there is a sense of urgency to not waste any time so the chances of adoption are higher for all, but I think it can be done in a more cordial manner. Thank you for finding us our new family member!
We adopted our dog three years ago. It is a process but they have to do that so they make sure the dogs end up in good home, so we didn’t mind. The adoption mom for our dog was amazing she told us everything we had to know about our puppy. I had no doubt that he was raised in a loving home. These people that run this are angels in my book they save so many animals.
