Trail to the highest point on the Grand Mesa. Spectacular views and a cool walk across the spine. Pretty easy hike, but a few thrilling exposed sections. A few options including a lower loop back to the parking lot, or drop a car at the other end. Check out Alexander Lake Lodge for lunch ...if they are open. Nice Polish family run.

One of the coolest trails in Western Colorado in my humble opinion. The trail is 7 miles long if you go from here to the West trailhead, which is unlisted on Google maps but is at the Crag Crest campground. However, to reach the beginning of the crest is only about 2-3 miles; I'd say closer to two miles. The crest is fairly narrow in some places, but in other places was wide enough that I could sit and eat lunch while other hikers on the trail could barely notice me. The trail was somewhat busy and solitude came and went in stretches when I went; however, it was Mid-August between 10am-2pm, so I imagine that's about as busy a time as there is here. I was not especially well acclimated upon coming here, and I found the ascent to the Crest to be quite demanding at times, requiring me to strictly pace myself or my heart would be thumping and I'd be out of breathe for a couple minutes. However, I saw plenty of elderly individuals as well as families with children and dogs, so it seems to be mostly the altitude and my own lack of acclimation, and not the trail.

Excellent hike through the pines and aspens. West trailhead is at 10,300. Max height at 11,610. Trail is very rocky in some parts. Loop trail is about 11 miles. Lots of seniors on the trail.
