Went through the entire process from ASVAB to physical, and I'm actually surprised how nice and understanding everyone was. The staff in both the front desk and examination rooms we're easy to talk to, and would periodically spark normal conversations. The physical, while seeming intrusive and weird, was handled professionally, and at no point was my process uncomfortable. (you barely even feel the needle for the blood draw). I'd gladly go again if I had to, but I'm still glad it's over.

Well, I enlisted in 1972 into the Navy. I think it was the facility that corresponds to this one but it was in a different location. They were playing that song by Ricky Nelson called Garden Party. That was a very appropriate song. And I appreciated that. A lot of the young guys who were processing me in were in the military. They all seemed to think I was a fool for joining. To some extent they could be correct. However, though the Navy was tough it also made me tougher than I would otherwise be. It made me disciplined more than I could have otherwise been. I remember doing the examination while bending over and spreading your cheeks. Why we do that I really don't know, but I'd done it before at the Doctor back home so I wasn't too surprised I guess. I think they also checked for hernias somehow. Then I went to some bus with all these other guys. (Most of them seemed a lot more physically mature and experienced than me as I was barely 18). Then we went to some cheap hotel to spend the night before we took a plane to Orlando for boot camp. Overall a pleasant experience ?

I am going up to MEPS for the 3rd time because of their own errors or policies that they don't care to mention until you are already there and violating said terms. This isn't such a big deal for some people but for me, driving 2 hours to Charlotte just to be told to go home because of a specific schedule they stick to but never tell you about just so you have to drive another 2 hours home isn't fun. Coupled with this, I lost the job I was signed up for because of a technical mistake made by someone at MEPS and a Lieutenant refusing to let me sign my contract at 10am instead of 9am whenever MEPS was practically empty and they never told me I had to be there by 9am. On top of that, now I have to go back up there on Monday, get to MEPS at around 6am, sign my contract at around 7 or 8am and then wait hours to swear in at 1pm and then drive all the way home for 2 hours. So basically I'm waking up at 4:00 in the morning to sign a contract and then get home at 6pm. I get it that there are rules and regulations that they can't just wave all the time but at some point it comes off as more that they just don't care about they job you are trying to do and instead make the process just tedious and annoying. Aside from that, the people in the medical area of MEPS work hard, but my experience has been nothing but a headache.

Awesome recruiters in the Army office , at least. The man at the front desk & the tiny woman with the loud voice that's always screaming aren't very pleasent people to deal with. But overall, glad I shipped & outta there
