I loved Rob Clement when he was at The Porters House, so when he started a Jewish Deli popup (something Charlotte desperately needs), was in. Covid-19: for the first popup I went to... all ordering and payment can be done online. You select a pickup time too. I'm not sure if he was running behind when was there, but l still had to wait about 30 minutes for my food. Ordinarily, this wouldn't bother me. I really don't like being inside with other people during the pandemic though, so my only feedback would be to figure out a system so that people can just run in and grab their food. For more recent popups, you can't even order online anymore. You have to wait in a line and the line is usually 1-2 hours long. Onto the food... The menu is different at each popup. We got pastrami sandwiches and matzo ball soup. This was the best pastrami I've ever had. It was so fatty and thick. The rye bread he uses from Verdant Bread is delicious. The mustard is perfect. I will say, I'm not sure how to eat it as a sandwich. There is so much meat and the bread isn't sturdy so it kind of fell apart. A messy sandwich doesn't bother me though as long as it's delicious (and this one was). The desserts are always fantastic. My favorites are the cinnamon rolls and brown butter bars (rotating flavors). I'm sad missed his Latkes for Chanukah and am excited to see what else he brings to Charlotte at future popups!
