When I first visit China town there is Lao Sze Chuan saying they are the best Chinese food in USA this year, and I was so happy and so excited! This is Chicago! They must have some decent real Chinese food. And when I really walk in and sit down, they are over priced. But if they are real authentic Chinese food then maybe it’s worth it for this time! I was so disappointed after I tried the food they are no match to those Chinese restaurant in Florida. And it is a shame they said they are the best! What and who gives you the confidence to say like that?! You can only lie and fool to those people who are not familiar with real Chinese food but not me! This is just a higher class version of Panda.

Food quality is actually not bad, but the portion is way too small. We ordered almost 200 of food but each dish got lots of vegetables with tiny bit of meat. Every dish shared the same base soup, and pretty much tastes all the same. Only thing that’s actually good was Peking duck.
We live in the Gold Coast and searched for great Chinese food for years. We finally found Lao Sze Chuan several years ago and it has been our favorite Chinese restaurant ever since. The menu is vast and includes very authentic dishes as well as more typical dishes most Americans expect. Their delivery is very reliable as well.
We had an amazing time at this spot. We liked the nice environment and the food. The waiters were very personal. I am content we finally managed to eat here.
The chef’s special dry chilli chicken is yummmmilicious! And the fried rice, shrimp in garlic sauce were good too. No complaints with the ambience and service :)
This gem is tucked away on Michigan Ave. They have a great selection of food and beverages. It’s a very large and open space with lots of room.
Fantastic food, incredible service. Great setting worth the hype. The menu is extensive offering the normal American favorites with lots of non-traditional fare that is worth exploring. A limited number of Dim Sum items are available. Best to come and share around the table. Prices are elevated but fair for the quality served.
Went for lunch during Restaurant Week. Entered from the Michigan Ave entrance and took the elevator up. No one greets you and there’s no sign to let you know where to go, so we just wandered to the pick-up desk by the mall entrance. Once they seated us, we asked about their Restaurant Week menu and we were brought *dinner* menus from their 2020 Reataurant Week. We asked for the lunch menu since it was 12:30 and they said there were no lunch menus this year. I showed them the 2021 lunch menu from the Restaurant Week website and said their 2020 dinner menu is different dishes that I did not want. Eventually she came back with 2020 Lunch menus with an increased price of 26 handwritten over last year’s 25 (also inconsistent with the 2021 website menu). We got the dry chili chicken that was so famous, it was alright. Good, but more chilis and oil than chicken, felt like a snack. I do recommend their Mongolian Beef, it was very flavorful and filling with lots of tender meat and veggies. Did not come with rice so they were going to charge us for 2 extra bowls but graciously decided to comp them. Sesame ball desserts were delicious, but miniature. Te Amo Boba bar was amazing though! Overall for my first time here seems very expensive for some Americanized Chinese food and next time I’ll go to Chinatown and look for some more authentic digs.
