Mark is a wonderful piano teacher and I would highly recommend him! The students in Mark's studio range from professional musicians to novice piano players. I am a full time music teacher with a bachelors degree in music working on my masters degree. After graduating undergrad I wanted to continue learning piano from a master teacher, and have been with Mark for almost three years. Mark is a unique teacher, in my experience, because his approach prioritizes creating artful music while supporting good technique. He gets his students to deeply listen to their own music and make adjustments to make their music more beautiful, aesthetic, effective, and understandable. While Mark certainly helps his students improve their technique, our lessons are never drilling and drilling technique in isolation before you are \allowed\ to make beautiful music. Mark is an incredible pianist and has a wealth of knowledge about music theory and music history. He helps me pick repertoire that I love to play. Additionally, Mark has a lot of experience performing both classical and jazz piano, and is always open to working with me in both of these realms. Mark has helped me grow so much as a pianist in the time that I have been taking lessons with him. I would highly recommend him as a teacher.

Mark is an incredible teacher and I always enjoy my lessons with him. He definitely is adept at teaching adult students, and his group recitals are far more laid back and less stuffy than traditional piano recitals. Further, Mark is both an accomplished jazz pianist and classical pianist, so he is more than willing to teach you from either angle, and commonly incorporates the best of both worlds. You shouldn't have even the slightest trepidation about starting lessons with Mark; he's wonderful. My only regret is that I didn't discover him sooner.
I am honored to be Mark’s student for 4 months so far. He is a highly accomplished, professional concert pianist and an outstanding instructor at all levels !!! He is patient, creative, extremely perceptive in getting through to his students and is a true inspiration. If you have the opportunity to see him in concert, you’ll be amazed with his extraordinary talent - he’s certain to get a standing ovation! I highly recommend Mark as a piano instructor. He brings the best out of his students, even beginners like me. He is 100% dedicated and passionate about music – he works extremely hard at teaching and performing with an ambitious performance calendar. Chicago has a genuine treasure in Mark Valenti. Bravo Mark !!!
Mark is an excellent teacher. As a former student of the University of Michigan School of Music, I feel that too many music teachers fall into the trap of obsessively drilling technique. While Mark certainly provides a wealth of technical knowledge, he ensures that the primary focus is always on musicality, which in my view yields better results and provides for a much more enriching learning process. He also has a unique way of pushing you to achieve your best without being intimidating. I would highly recommend Mark to piano students of all levels.
Great pianist, and great teacher. Have worked with mark off and on as my work schedule allows, for a few years. Has really made a huge difference in my skills. Sometimes I come well prepared, sometimes I haven't touched my piano since I last saw him - doesn't matter, he always finds a way to make time productive, he always has valuable coaching to add. It's obvious that he loves music, has lots of explanations whether it's music theory, history, mechanics, style - all of which have made me better. I really appreciate his dedication and effort - you will too.
