Took the Metra as far as we could on the redline to Juliot and it was a neat experience! Seemed clean and safe. Loved the upper seating.

Wow what a great experience! First time taking public transportation to get there. Walked a half block to the entrance. Made my way to the terminal and was looking for a train when an amtrak worker approached me and assisted me. There was a lounge for waiting passengers. Although I was there during the day it seemed very safe.

Train delays are quite a common thing with Metra, yet permit costs have been going up year by year. Secondly, the breathing conditions at Union Station are terrible, especially towards Madison Street. Sometimes the diesel fumes from the trains are so intense that one can barely see. There is zero ventilation especially in the summer. I can't imagine the site effects of inhaling that smoke. Thirdly, the noise pollution by the trains is terrible, not just from the engines but also the air brakes. Once an air brake or valve was released right next to the passengers. The high pitch noise almost took out my hearing and I wasn't even close to it. I really wish Metra or the city of Chicago would do something about these issues and improve the conditions at Union station.
