The only bad thing I can say is that the connection on the phone kept dropping so they had to call me back several times. According to the sign on the door they are closed to the public because of the pandemic but are still inside working. Interesting. My dad applied for Utility Assistance, they couldn't help him right away but gave me numbers to local churches that did end up helping us. I guess it helps to know what's in your community. Whoever it was that answered the phone said that January 1 started a new year for them and they have to call people applying in the order that the applications come in. Since it was February 1, I would imagine that means there are people in front of my dad. When they told me they cover 5 counties. I was shocked it wasn't just Giddings/ Lee county, so I can understand that they're probably super busy. Thank you for helping me get my dad taken care of and for getting us to a church to help while we wait for a call.

Someone said ot sure why the low ratings.\ Allow me to tell you why. Deanna was the one I spoke to as well. I explained how I had been unemployed for almost a year and had exhausted every option possible. Silence. I asked for help paying lights and water bill. She stated they don't pay water bills and my electricity provider was not one they worked with but did say they could work on it but it would take additional time. Something I don't have. I told her my lights would be turned off tomorrow. Her reply...you can go online andprint an application or pick it up in city hall. Seriously, I just said tomorrow. I asked which companies they worked with because without working for this long, my credit was not where it should be and I was always told a deposit was necessary. Her reply...oh we don't cover deposits. Then more silence. My reply. Well ok, thank you for your time. What else can I say. I've never done this. I need someone knowledgeable and with sincere compassion for people's situations to guide me. She did nothing! NOTHING! This was my last hope for Austin County. I give up! There is no help out there.

I have referred numerous people to their organization. One in particular had lost her job. She got another one, but it put her behind paying bills. She just needed help getting caught up again. They were quick to help and saved this woman from being evicted.

I talked to Deanna and she seemed to care a great deal about helping people with public assistance I look forward to working with them. Not sure why the low ratings it seems like a good place for people to get help

Give them three stars because they are providing a much-needed service helping with rent and utilities for folks. However, when you apply in June because you know you're going to have a problem by the end of July and they manage to fit you into the schedule in October that's not really helpful! I mean most people don't plan to have a crisis so when they need help they need it right away not 3 to 5 months down the road.
