The Buckhorn is 45 minutes drive from San Antonio, TX. Before I played this course, I would have said, \That is too far to drive to play golf with so many good courses in San Antonio\. NOW, after having had one of my top 5 golf experiences ever in my years and years of playing golf, I am taking the rare action (for me) to recommend anyone reading this to take the effort and play this course. From the design of the course, to the congeniality of the staff, to the environment saving steps taken building and maintaining it; both the designer AND the operator have scored a home run. This may be the first course I ever played where I did not lose my golf ball. The fairways are not so wide, but the rough on either side allows for recovery from errant shots. Even a novice can recognize the options for attacking the hole (with associated dangers such as high faced bunkers in front of the green and steep drop offs if your shot is long). The greens are large, offering me a chance to putt even if I miss my target by 20 yards. The penalty for such a mistake does not require another iron shot, but it does bring tricky putting into play (some of the greens have more waves than a bag of the brand name potato chip). The staff is helpful and friendly. An example that many courses do not employ on non-busy days is adhered to here (I played Mon, Tue, and Wed). They had a refreshment cart circling the course for the convenience of all players! I played in January, but the grass, sand, and greens were still close to spring and summer perfection. I could say so much more about my positive experience at The Buckhorn, but instead will repeat what I said at the beginning of my review. Devote the 45 minutes each way if necessary, lengthen your days drive along Interstate 10 if necessary, play this course. I say it is worth it.

The Course is in great shape and the greens are super fast. First time playing there and I had a lot of fun!

I’ve always thought that driving to Comfort to play golf was a bit of a drive. It was worth it. First off the course is quite open. There are trees but not that many. There is water but it is manageable. The course was a challenge and it was a fun round. I would definitely play there again. Fwiw with few trees the wind really comes into play so with a NW wind, 9 and 18 will boost your ego. My playing partner and I both had 300 yard drives thanks to a cold front that pushed our balls well down the fairway.

Played this golf course in November 2020. It was in very good shape. It was my first time here and I had a good time. The course is not that difficult. The greens can be tricky, but other that that it was very playable. I walked the course as it is not that long. Management needs to add a walking green fee rate. A course like this has no business making everyone pay for a cart.

Played the track this week while on vacation. Nice links style course with really nice greens that roll true. Loved since it's wide open...opportunity to work on game improvement!
