Recently I contacted the tax assessor's office to discuss my motor vehicle tax bill. I moved out of Cromwell last fall, and in mid July of this year, I received the bill. I promptly contacted the tax assessor, and was told an adjusted bill would be sent. I never received this bill. I contacted the tax office, and and told them I never received an adjusted bill. I was e-mailed a screen shot of my account. I noticed I was being charged interest for a bill I had never actually received, and called the assessor's office. My issue is not with the charge itself. If it had been explained to me in a professional, polite manner that the interest charge was un-avoidable, I would have no problem. Instead, the representative was combative, rude, and hugely un-professional. At one point she said that if we didn't receive a bill we \should have chased it.\ We did. That's why I was in contact with the tax office for more than a month. She finally forwarded my call to the tax collector. If possible, he was even worse. He informed me that there was probably a delinquent notice out on my husband and me, for a bill that (I cannot stress this enough) we never received. He told me I was asking him to \break the law.\ No, I was asking for it to be explained in a way that didn't involve insinuating that my husband and I were incompetent idiots, which is exactly what his tone and words suggested. I was also told that it was our fault for ot turning your plates in\ (we did), and that ot receiving a bill is not an excuse for not paying it.\ In short, I was appalled by the lack of professionalism and simple courtesy that these employees displayed.
