If I could give 0* I would. Code compliance is useless and their many negative reviews prove that. They also don't follow their own protocol(s) or care at all. I requested an inspector to take a look at some violations I had reported and they never inspected, these violations affected my family and I's health. I'm pretty confident the inspector accepted a \pay off\ and falsely closed my service ticket. No inspection, no communication, no relief or resolve from neither the city or code compliance. After reporting several complaints about this matter, I just gave up. There needs to be some serious reconsiderations about the department, their employees and services offered.

The City of Dallas Code Compliance office is awful. They allow the Adler Hotel at 910 N Peak and the Guidera Rooming house (located at 4303 Gaston Avenue) to continue to rent rooms to the public even though both buildings are infested with bedbugs. It was my first night living there and as my room was unfurnished I slept on the floor on a blanket. That night I woke up to bedbugs crawling in my ear, on my arms, across my face, up my nose and everywhere else. I looked down at my pillow case which was dark blue and it appeared to be hundreds of little grains of salt with legs crawling (bed bug babies) and larger bed bugs as well. The next day the other residents told me that both buildings were infested. I approached the office manager who was very nonchalant about this and he gave me a sheet telling me how to treat the bed bugs. I had to spend my own money to buy powders and liquids and none of it worked. The bed bugs were everywhere. One roommate was eventually put out because she was caught talking to Dallas Code Inspectors when they came out. She had also bought a brand new mattress encased in plastic and the plastic ripped a little and her entire mattress was infested.
I have/had interaction with some of the Code Officers, some Good/Bad. If some of the people that are complaining, have a solution, they (CITY) would like to Hear them. While you Point Your FINGERS at the cities PROBLEMS, You have 3 Fingers pointing back at you. IF YOU HAVE A SOLUTION, come work for the City, and HELP FIX IT, instead of your Belly aching. I know I will be there to HELP OUT, as well.
They tell you to cut trees in the ally, then fine you 265 when up put them on the street. The house next door still has tree limb in the ally....not a word, or fine, nor anything. Across the ally there is a huge log lying there for 10yrs, not a word about it, right against a wall that has not been painted in probably 20 years. I guess the best thing to do is just cut your limbs and leave them in the alley.
We have a very agressive weekend code officer, D. Jarret, who cites for any single violation she can but when you call her back (over 30 times) she doesn't answer her phone nor does she return phone calls. Worse, I've written several letters to the office of Code Compliance and they haven't responded either. It's very frustrating that my tax dollars go to pay for the City's incompetence.
