Having Beavers in the ponds is probably an ecological first for these ponds (Weld Pond and The Little Pond) as they were the result of damming a small valley nearly a hundred years ago. The increased intrusion by humans and over-spraying with Crop Dusting planes into the area reduced the likelihood of wildlife in the area such as Deer and Beavers. Some 50 years ago people in the area began to become much more concerned and active about the ecosystem locally, which has allowed the forests and rivers to rebound back to the more normal state for a Northern Deciduous Forest (Hickory-Oak) that it was originally. With that rebound there has been re-habitation by deer and now even a beaver or two to the area. Deer have become pests as they like our gardens and are not beyond a snatch and grab in the Apple Trees or Roses.
