I randomly found a glowing reference to John on a guitar forum I frequented many years ago. I have taken every guitar I own to him for pickup replacements, coil tapping, fret work, nut replacement, and entire frets replacement since. He has a unique process for getting the best action for fret height without buzz. I can't imagine a negative response to John's work other than a lack of understanding of his work time and therefore impatience. John is busy for a reason. If you can't understand that then you might want to question your reasoning. If you could get in and out quickly wouldn't that mean he doesn't have much repeat business...of course. He's busy because he is simply gifted and worth the wait. Oh and he's a super nice honest guy and reasonably priced. I've recommended many many friends to him. All are over joyed with his work.

Over the past several years, I've taken countless guitars, both electric and acoustic, to John and have never been disappointed. Have taken friends guitars to him as well and they have always been pleased with John's work. On rare occasion when I've had to return a guitar for some tweaking or fine tuning, he's always been willing to oblige. His setups are always great and his fret work is the best. I've taken several high end & vintage guitars to John and am totally confident in his ability to work on them. I'll also add that he lives 200 miles from me and it's worth it to me to make that drive for his work. John always takes the time and makes the effort to get it right.
We had two acoustics set up perfectly in the time frame John quoted. Very surprising to hear negative feedback based on our experience. Our Breedloves were set up pretty well from the factory but tough to play. The playability, volume, intonation and action are night and day better now.
I've been bringing my guitars to John for over a decade. While turnaround has sometimes been an issue, the quality of the finish products never has been. John stands behind his work and does what it takes to get a job done right and done well. John does great fret work and has creative ideas for pickup wirings for those who are interested in doing more adventurous and ambitious things with the tone of their guitars. I will use John's services again in the future & recommend you consider doing the same.
My friend sent Bigjohnsguitars a guitar over 6 months ago.... Nothing but excuses from this John guy.... cashed the repair check but still no guitar.... I see that John has updated his website, from experience with this company, I wouldn't be sending him anything you want repaired. Update: John did get my buddy his guitar back. And to be completely fair to John, it was quality work. No buzzing, every note rings out. All frets were polished well and smooth edges. Great job on fretwork. Time for completion was only issue.
