We had a blast at Sundown. I had never skied before but picked it up quickly and really enjoyed the slopes. There's really only one green run, though they boast several, they're all connected to each other. The run is a good length, however, and because they have several different hills connected, it makes it great for first-time skiers because you can stop at the \bottom\ of each segment to wait or meet up with your group. Also helpful to take a break or a complete stop if you're still trying to learn how to control your speed. The runs do intersect so you can hop from green to blue and vice versa, which is a nice way to mix up your runs. My biggest suggestion for Sundown actually revolves around the check-in process. We did the SMART pass online to save time, but upon arrival, found it very difficult to easily determine the difference between the SMART pass experience and those who purchase tickets at the resort. We wasted a lot of time trying to figure out where to go to scan in and where to find our gear. I'd recommend putting a large sign over the window where the SMART pass scan-in is located and make sure to train all employees to tell customers where their next stop is. Or provide big signs with arrows. So from SMART scan, you get your boots, which is just down the way from the scan in window. From there, your skis are already pulled (which we didn't know, so we waited in line for a long period of time before having to go elsewhere to locate our skis). I do realize the SMART pass outlines this, but when you're new and you're trying to figure out which slopes are where and it's packed with people, providing a little more direction will make the experience even better. All in all, we loved it and are going back this weekend for their final season days. For the first time in my entire Iowa-residency, I'm actually looking forward to next winter so we can come back for more fun.

Prepaid my lift ticket and rental online. Did everything outside, their system is set up very well. Self scan your ticket outside to get your lift pass, then go to the boot/helmet counter, then go pick up your skis/board from the rental rack outside. All very well organized and covid friendly. The conditions were great. It was very busy and the lifts took awhile but it was still a lot of fun. I wish a bit more ppl would mask up properly but it wasn't the worst situation as we were all outside, and only had to go in for the bathroom. Pack your lunches to save you stress!

This is a great place for beginner skiers and snowboarders. It's Iowa, so the terrain and hills are gentle and forgiving. What was truly awful, however, was the restaurant service and mask policy. The staff barely enforced masks, resulting in a lot of unsafe behavior and crowding. The waitstaff was awful. Aside from it taking forever for anyone to come to our table, the \food\ was not so much delivered as plopped unceremoniously in front of us, leaving it up to us to figure out who got what. (I say \food\ 'cause it wasn't that great. My prime rib sandwich was literally shaved meat on dry bread, and the pizza smelled like vomit. Cheese curds were good.) Meanwhile, the youngest child in our party never got her food delivered. I finally got up and went to the kitchen where I was told, \oh they're still making it.\ No, they weren't, I said. It was right there on the counter and I pointed to it. She shoved the burger at me and walked away. Look, I know the pandemic has made restaurant operations difficult but this was unacceptable behavior all around.

With Covid happening, they've become a little more organized with their entry lines AND the seating for food in the north lodge. However, there was a lack of equipment and I've seen the lodge be busier than what it was today. Two sets of our poles got stolen after we had hung them up on our skis while we ran inside for a \quick bite\. Two burgers and some fries took almost 20 min to get to us. The bathroom was in need of some much anticipated TLC. The teachers today were really good and communicated clearly with their students and took the time to remember their names. Last year, I fell and busted my head open. Ski patrol was great! Overall there needs to be better communication amongst staff to see that visitors are tended to promptly with food service AND lodge check-in/equipment rental. Please get more equipment to. DO HOPE THEY KEEP THE SEATING/HOSTESS SYSTEM ONCE COVID PASSES. DINING ROOM IS SO MUCH CLEANER, QUIETER, AND EASIER TO FIND TABLES

easy to pickup tickets, boots, skis. Not easy to pay for it all, but has value to be outside with family and getting exercise after a long quarantine
