First time adopting a cat. From the initial call to the time we left the facility with our new cat the experience was positive. The staff were courteous and friendly and knew exactly which cats would be a good fit for us. I would highly recommend The Standish Humane Society to anyone looking to rescue/adopt a cat.

I would not recommend Standish. The adoption coordinators waste your time and give you the run around and also lie. I inquired about a cat and was called back by a coordinator who asked me some questions then told me I wasn’t a good fit for this particular cat. She told me they had another cat come in that she thought would be a good fit- gave me all the cats info (age, personality, etc) then said to call back when I think of a date/time to met the cat. I called back within 2 hours and the coordinator basically said no this cat isn’t a good fit and that all the information I was given was not true ( example: said that cat was 1 year old then back tracked and said the cat was around 6. Originally said the cat was great with kids then said NO!). Total waste of my time. Don’t waste your time with this place if you have young kids- the won’t adopt to you. Also they don’t have an voicemail so almost impossible to get a hold of anyone. Go with the MSPCA!

As a no-kill shelter, I went here to rescue a cat in 2007. I ended up bringing home two. The volunteers at the shelter answered all my questions and it was clear they knew and cared about all of their cats. The cats were micro-chipped, fully vetted, and just the sweetest. I was given an \adoption basket\ of food, information, coupons, and more. In 2011, I rescued another one. I also began volunteering (so my review is biased) here because I saw the great work they did and wanted to be a part of it.

This place is awesome! I went today to drop of some treats, linens, and some empty Tidy cat litter bucket pails. I was so glad they knew about reusing these for food, cat houses as a safe zone or just because cats love boxes, but also another other 100 things to use them for. Dawn your awesome and it was such a pleasure meeting you. So everyone if you have these buckets or see them in some recycling bin grab them for Dawn and all her kitties it will be a treasure to them all.
