Karoo Restaurant Reviews | Rating 4.6 out of 5 stars (8 reviews)

Karoo Restaurant is located in Eastham, United States on 3 Main St #32B. Karoo Restaurant is rated 4.6 out of 5 in the category south african restaurant in United States. oo is a restaurant that celebrates the diversity of South African cuisine. Much like the United States, South Africa is a melting pot and the result is a culinary tradition that combines Dutch, British, Malaysian, Indian, Portuguese and native African flavors all together for something completely unique. Karoo is the brainchild of Chef Sanette Groenewald, who grew up in South Africa and fell in love with the food there. oo's menu is an interesting one. The recipes created in the kitchen can be traced back as far as eight generations. As noted before, the inspiration for these plates come from several different countries in the region so some dishes will be familiar while others will be interesting twists on existing classics. The specialty of the house is the national dish, bobotie. This is a curried yet mild meatloaf that has been baked and served with chutney and rice.

Still thinking about their lamb stew....mmm...so nice to have a delicious and different dinner option available in the area. Eager for their Spring re-opening!

They have done a fantastic job distancing tables for COVID while keeping it charming and warm. PLENTY of space and separation between tables, in the garden seating or on the deck, as all are separated by plants, separate covered structures, etc. I had been looking forward to trying this place for the past year or two since I've heard such rave reviews but unfortunately the food we had tonight just didn't live up to expectations in the slightest. The sauces (on monkey ribs and peri peri) were just okay, nothing special, and the cocktails were not good at all. The Malva Pudding dessert (think tres leches-style soaked cake) was DELICIOUS though, so glad we got that. The menu looked about half the size of what it normally is, I'm sure due to COVID downsizing, which is understandable. I'm giving it 3 stars since they did have a great ambience, very good spacing and set up of tables, and... the dessert ... But otherwise didn't love (or even really like) the rest of the meal, sadly.

We love the restaurant and the food is wonderful. The managers on duty could have done a better job. They placed us outside in the grass when there were better seats on the deck. After I spoke up, the manager said they could get us bug spray if needed. We had a lovely waitress and the food was amazing. However, as soon as I paid my 250 plus bill, we were asked to rudely leave because of the next seating. I totally get that but when the bill was brought to use they should have said- we hope you enjoyed your dinner, we have another reservation in 10 mins. No warning and I still had almost a full glass of wine. So...management could have had better communication and customer service skills.almost ruined my whole dinner experience! Almost!

Great place! Ate outside; neat little outdoor area for dining. Staff was very friendly; good food! Had some amazing falafel and grape leaves. Will definitely be back to try more on the menu!!

Some of the most flavorful dishes I've ever had. The ribs were so succulent and I could sit there and eat the samosas all day! Has live music and an excellent drink selection.

The food was excellent and that's why I gave 5 stars. If there were stars to rate the ladies personal and attitude it would be 1 star. I could not believe how I was treated and greeted. She actually just tossed my change and placed the bag of food on the floor. There is no need to treat people like that! I got the impression that this lady is covid paranoid. And if a person is that fearful, then they should stay home and collect social security. Unfortunately, I probably won't be back.

I gave a two because past experiences have been great. We try to stop by this restaurant once a year, when we come over to the cape, however due to covid the plans were different. When I called on a Wednesday to make reservations for a Friday the individual who answered the phone was extremely rude. I asked about indoor seating ( some restaurants have it) and she was condescending and rude like I was asking for a royal table. I asked about heaters outside and she once again was condescending and said yes on the patio. I asked where we would be seating and in a sharp tone she said “I haven’t decided yet.” I asked if we could sit where there were heaters and she sounded very out off and said fine (I explained we had an elderly person with us who has difficulty walking in grass and gets cold). The woman then said you have to call if you can’t make or so we can seat someone else there and you should dress accordingly. Well Friday came around and it was cold and rainy so like I was commanded to do I called, thankfully I had to leave a message as I was scared this woman would yell at me. The weather and this woman’s attitude really helped make the decision to not return. It stinks as we have had such great experiences there. Hopefully that individual changes her I’m-superior-to-you-attitude as this isn’t the business environment to be rude to customers.

Karoo is a must go when in Cape Cod! The food is absolutely amazing, the vibe even during covid times is great (I can only imagine what it must be like when under normal times), and the people who work there are extremely outgoing, professional, and friendly. I highly recommend it and so happy to have South African food right down the road!
