Although there are some things they need to work on, the lodge we stayed in was very nice. We would definitely stay again.

I wished that i should have read some of the prior complaints. The bathroom vent was hanging from the ceiling. The glass shelf in the bathroom was coming out of the wall. Ants on the kitchen counter. Dirty dishes in the cabinet with old food stuck on them. Dirty dishes in the dishwasher. Only two tv stations available on their dish network. When we complained to the owner, he made excuses about the cleaning crew but never apologized. We left a day early. Unclean conditions are a common complaint with these cottages.
Wonderful Vacation stayed a week at the Gretna my family and I loved it. Some days we just stayed in the cabin relaxed loved the whole house xm radio the jacuzzi and the porch was great for relaxing at night!
For the price, this cottage was pretty rough. Carpenter ants by day, mice by night. Mouse droppings in the kitchen. Advertises "super-fast internet" but the internet was so slow that we couldn't watch a movie at night or so much as check email. Lots of cobwebs, old furniture, and old mattresses/pillows. Not what we were expecting based on the reviews.
Our group has stayed at 2 of the cottages here (the Gretna once and the Lodge about 5 times) and we have a great time each visit. While the cabins are always clean when we arrive, we were very pleased this year to see even more cleaning measures taken due to Covid. Pros: - Clean cabins - Accommodating service - owners have gotten back to us very quickly whenever we have questions. - Fun amenities (such as whirlpool tubs, skylights, sauna, arcade gazebo, fire pit, indoor fireplace, wifi, speakers throughout cabin, etc) and every year we come there are new updates to the grounds. - Well stocked kitchen - doesn't come with food (of course) but it has all the utensils and appliances (coffee maker, blender, grill tools, marshmallow stick, etc) we ever need. - Truly Fantastic location - close enough to town for activities but isolated enough for beautiful walks through the woods, star viewing, bonfires, etc. - It's great being able to have our own yard space and a location that allows dogs. Cons: This is pretty tough because we enjoy the trips so much we start planning next years trip the moment we leave this year, but I'll try: - The cabins are somewhat rustic, so the internet can be a bit spotty at times (there is free wifi and we have had connection troubles for one or two days total of our many weeklong stays here). - The drains are country pipes, so a tub may drain slowly. Thats the most I can come up with for Cons. If you want to stay at a fancy hotel with 5g internet and room service, this won't be your jam. If you want to stay at an awesome Cabin/Cottage where you can play outdoor games, go for hikes, watch the stars, have some bonfires and visit a really fun small town this is perfect. I left a review after last year's visit as well (Google doesn't want me to just edit that one so I'll post a new one) so you can read both to see if anything changed.
Its a Warning for everyone. Don't book this cottage at any cost. The Cottage owner do not provide blankets, Pillow or any other stuff in the cottage. He asked to bring Everything after receiving 50% booking amount in Cashier Check. After receiving the 50% amount only he disclosed that we have to bring everything from toothpaste to Blankets for ourselves. MY colleague Booked this Cottage and after that met with Accident. He got fracture in Leg due to which he cant travel. He called Mr. Dale to cancel but he didn't picked up phone . It just went to voicemail. Dont get Trapped into this cottage. BE AWARE of this.
We stayed in the Gretna: PROS- Quiet/Peaceful-Very quiet property and owners leave you be. Actual wood burning stoves-give a real authentic ambiance of tranquility and a real cabin feel. Trust system-owners trust you to pay in full by simply leaving it on the counter at checkout. Inviting at arrival-you are welcomed by the inside lights on so your not stumbling around in the dark trying to find light switches and the cabin is warmed up for you. CONS- Cleanliness-the cleanliness of the cabin DID NOT inspire confidence. Cabin had unknown substances on the walls and on the furniture throughout entire place. Dishes were dirty, had to employ my husbands strength to unscrew the bender bottom due to old food, same with the dish rack and other items. Upstairs shower had black mold. Closet had a bunch of unwanted junk just thrown on the floor in the corner....to name a few. Inconvenient-we arrived late and were excited to get the wood burner going, but was disappointed to find 2 logs, empty fire starter box and no matches. Had to run to the store to purchase supplies. Poorly maintained-baseboard heaters were falling apart and/or broken, screens in windows were not taken out and cleaned, many outdated items or severely worn weren't replaced, such as upstairs bed comforter, cushions in the fire burning nook, rugs, curtains, all very low cost items to replace. Sadly, we won't be back, unless new ownership, etc..... I don't doubt that back in her glory days the Gretna was amazing, but seems all the effort is to build new cabins rather than keeping up the ones they have.
Outside looked great. Inside looked fine until we crawled into dirty sheets. Blood stain on master bedroom sheets (unwashed) gritty sandy sheets my daughter wouldn't sleep on dust and dog hair here and there throughout. Was quiet and peaceful but we were the only people there for five days. Envelope left on counter at check in from cleaning staff saying tips appreciated.... Here's a tip wash the bedding I might have left a tip! Left the place cleaner than when we arrived received an email owing more money. Won't be back!!! Mosquito Haven!!!
