Matthew McCormack from Helistream has been nothing less than impressive. I had been working on my private rating in Alaska before work brought me to California. I am glad to have found Helistream and be placed in contact with Matthew. He taught me so much in plenty of different ways in such a short amount of time. I am excited to return home a better pilot and show my CFI's all I learned in California. To anyone looking for a school, I highly recommend Helistream, and if you can, Matthew has my highest approval as a CFI.

Helistream helped me go from 0 hours in a helicopter to commercial helicopter pilot in about 4 months. My course was Monday through Friday with about 1 hour ground session and 1-2 hours of flight time (this can be adjusted for individual student needs). There was quite a bit of self studying before and after your ground session. Helistream follows a written outline for both the ground and flight portions so each topic is covered in a methodical manner. The aircraft are well maintained and clean. The instructors are flexible, knowledgeable and helpful. If you want to become a helicopter pilot, give Helistream a call or stop by. Thanks Helistream!
I trained at Helistream in San Diego to become a flight instructor and I can affirm without any doubts that it has been the most valuable experience of all my flight training: the professionalism and quality of instruction are unmatched. The helicopters are maintained (everyday) as they came out of the factory the day before, which represents the high level of safety that you will experience by training with them! Started training here from April-July when my old fixed-wing flight school closed due to covid and I had to use up an age-sensitive financial aid package. I flew with Brandon and Matt who are both great instructors, very patient and explain things well. I did my stage checks with Breeze, who is very intense during flights but the nicest person on the ground - he taught me a lot about flying under pressure. My only complaint would be that the examiner was over an hour late coming down from John Wayne airport for my checkride, and while I understand scheduling issues can come up, I would've appreciated better communication and timing. On the whole, however, Helistream SD has a great training program with flexible schedules, well-maintained aircraft, and the FBO (circle air) itself is a very friendly, welcoming environment. Flying helicopters has always been something I admired but never realistically crossed my mind as a career path. Now, I can't imagine doing much else. If you're looking for a heli flight school, I'd highly recommend you check these guys out :)
