Good place however some staff workers don't seem to like their job or the people there. Which is suppose to be humanitarian ,you can notice their attitudes. It doesn't make sense how quickly they get annoyed. Why work here then lol

I came to Pads of Elgin on behalf of a displaced family member. He wanted to stay in Illinois and just wanted some time to get back on his feet. I paid for a hotel room, but those costs add up quickly. I had been told Pads could offer a place to sleep and services to help with employment and assist with behavioral health referrals, which my family member needed. However, the women operating the intake process put up every barrier to dissuade us from seeking their services. They told us the space was small and that we would not like the accommodations. None of them had any formal medical training, yet they persisted on reviewing hospital records, looking at court history, and a number of other documents that they claimed they needed before allowing people to stay. I spent two days working with these people and by the end of it they stated that \they could not support our needs\ as if we were requesting something more than what they had advertised. When I asked how they made this determination, they simply said, \It's part of our policy.\ When I asked to see a copy of this policy they first said they could provide a copy, then later declined to produce a copy of it. I again questioned why they were denying us after two days of gathering every piece of documentation and then one woman finally said, \Because I said so.\ They had a business card that stated \Homeless doesn't have to mean hopeless\ but they really made us feel otherwise. At the end of the day, you could tell that these intake women lacked compassion, sympathy, and honesty.
PADS is closed during the day on weekends. PADS is closed from 7 am - 9 am and also 4 pm - 7 pm. The location is isolated so during these hours we are stranded. The social workers stay behind locked doors. I have been there almost three week and not been given a social worker. This week, I have asked the head every day for who my social worker is. The workers all stay behind locked doors and seem to be scared of us. The night staff, one older man, when staff leaves, is mean and abusive. He hates us, his life or his job but it is very stressful to live this way when help is nasty or behind a locked door. Nights are hard to sleep because the door is left open so noise and light comes in and other residents yell or talk at night. But there is lots of supplies- soap, shampoo, detergent, toothbrushes and the food is good.
Got more assistance than I expected. Staff that I have met are personable yet professional. Thank you PADS!
Amazing people! Caring, generous and understanding.
