I wish I had more time to explore and read. My children were restless, so I hurried through. A lot of neat information though and cool to see the trains both inside and outside. Got stopped by 2 trains just on the way in! ;) If we're ever out here again, I look forward to going through again.

Awesome museum hidden in the middle of Elkhart. It was bigger than I thought and will easily take you a couple of hours if you read most/all of the stuff inside as well as venture out into the yard and walk up and down the tracks and see everything out there as well. In addition to all of the stuff to see and read, it's cheap to boot. Only 6/adult and 5/kid.
I've been here three times (October 2017, May 2018, May 2019) and it's a great place to see numerous trains even if railfanning for only a few hours. Elkhart is my first major train watching stop before continuing through the Midwest. It's beside the classification yard so trains going through the museum are usually slow and multiple trains can go through. The tracks are owned by Norfolk Southern but foreign power leaders can be common. Lots of different types of trains and a variety of color makes railfanning at this location a must for people who love trains.
This Museum was an afternoon well spent. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. We were able to walk into the trains, read all about this Depot in Elkhart, and enjoyed the amazing model train room. We spent about two hours here just taking our time to read the plaques on the displays, sit on the porch and admire these monsters and imagine traveling by train. Thanks so much for the ability to get a hands on experience!
Love this place! They have a lot to see! Inside museum has a lot of information and items. Outside you can get up inside the engine, caboose and dinning car. Wonderful place!
