We had a proper blast on our trip with Ely Outfitting Company! Cannot recommend them enough, especially our fantastic guide, Eliza!! We opted for the guided trip for our 5 day expedition and it was definitely the right choice. If you are looking for a fantastically well managed company that is up on all COVID-19 regulations, will make sure you are safe, and having a great time out in one of the most beautiful National Forests in the USA, this is your one stop shop! When we arrived after the shop had closed for the day, everything was clearly marked and cleaned for our arrival including the bunk house we stayed in next door. After waking up the next day, we safely parked our car in their lot, packed the provided canoe-friendly bags and set off. Even with the occasional rain that the fast moving clouds graced us with, we enjoyed every second. The meals were all delicious including the campfire pizza that was so ridiculously good that it will make you rethink how you enjoy real-world pizza. Eliza was always helpful, knowledgeable, and open to our requests of going a little further or only portaging once or twice on a day. Originally, I was nervous about vacationing during a pandemic but this was the perfect place for a nature getaway that is social distancing approved! Thanks so much!

After calling several outfitters in town we settled on Ely Outfitting Company for a canoe rental. We were bringing our 3 year-old on his first BWCA trip and, as a mom herself, Kristin knocked it out of the park with her helpful advice. However, from there it went downhill. Our route recommendation was terrible, and even after we questioned how busy the drop-off spot was, we were assured that we'd have no problem getting a site and that couldn't have been more wrong. After the fantastic start with Kristin, I was really disappointed in how corporate everything else felt.

Used Ely Outfitting Company for a 6-day trip. Nice staff, clean space, and quick service. However, I rented a canoe with a yoke that was not properly secured (missing multiple bolts) to the boat. Upon returning the canoe, I alerted the staff but was not offered a discount/refund for the faulty/unchecked equipment. *Update: Spoke with Jason and he went out of his way to make this right. He said he will make sure this issue doesn't happen again. This is customer-first service. I look forward to using Ely Outfitting Company in the future!

We're obviously in the minority, but we had terrible route advice and a very rocky trip as a result. Because of this we had to cut our trip short by a night and we couldn't even get a credit for returning the canoe early. The people were all very nice, but I expected better service when paying that kind of money- especially from a small business.

We flew in from Australia to experience the boundary waters and Ely Outfitting Company had everything setup and ready to go. Great advice on which routes to take and definitely made the most of our short stay (2 nights). We were able to do everything self guided without issue and equipment was first class. Great spot to stay overnight at the shop if you want to head out early.
