I would give no stars if I could. This place is a joke. If you can get the staff to look up from their phones, maybe the wait wouldn't be OVER SIX FREAKING HOURS. for a pinnacle facility, harrisburg hospital emergency department is thee worst. This is truly a disservice to people seeking medical help. This place and the inept, attitude-having staff make me sick, literally and metaphorically.

They NEVER answer the phone for their medical records departments. They don't even return your calls. I've called them for professional inquiries as well as personal inquiries and have gotten zilch from their facility. Their patient accessibility is literally THE WORST. This is exactly why I go through Penn State Holy Spirit for my medical needs. Good luck if you find yourself needing anything from UPMC Pinnacle. Unreliable at best.

Update: I received bills for waste-of-time visit to this facility described below, over 4,000 for a cat scan and a shot. DO NOT go here if you are in pain, as they will not treat it properly and will crush you financially. Walked into Harrisburg ER and diagnosed with kidney stone. Was given shot to relieve pain while it passed. I asked for pain prescription in case pain came back. Dr said I wouldn't need it as the shot would last 2 days. Seven HOURS after getting home, pain returned to same intensity (8 on scale of 1-10). I called ER to tell them and ask what they could do (now middle of the night, everything closed). They said I would have to come back in and pay for a 2nd ER visit. So the 2,000 I will pay towards my deductible on first visit may have to be doubled just to get a 2-5 day prescription for pain. I feel I was lied to and undertreated (a complaint I am seeing in other reviews). Kidney stone pain is no small issue and they know it. It is unlikely I will set foot in another UPMC facility.

This hospital is extremely disorganized with poor lines of communication. They will treat your symptoms but don't expect them to give excellent care. They are eager to push people out even if you still have dire medical problems. Best to avoid this place.

If you are not literally in the process of dying, please be prepared to wait hours unless, by some miracle, you catch the ER when it's empty.

If I could leave zero stars, I would. Waited for over 12 hours, pregnant and actively bleeding with cramps. Sat here for 12 hours, with the same people, and the frustration grew among everyone. Got taken back for an ultrasound at around hour 4, and was told the tech could not tell me anything. Therefore I had to wait 30 minutes for results from a doctor. 8 hours later, I was seen for maybe 5 minutes by nurses with stuck up attitudes as they told me I “Didn't need to see a doctor”, “Everything was fine”, and I was “overreacting”. The nurse said to me “You look fine, you’re fine” In 12 hours, never saw a doctor once. I was sent away with a script for a prenatal. Definitely will not be delivering here, awful service from people with awful attitudes. I’d be embarrassed to work here and treat patients the way I was treated.

I was vomiting blood and horrible cramps they had me wait 2 hours until I got into a room, there was no one in the waiting room or even in the exam rooms in the back. The room had very little if any air conditioning, I asked for a fan and 4 hours later still nothing. But the most important part was the care, they seem to want to put a quick band aid, iv fluids is all I got. They sent me for an ultrasound and they took me there and left me. There was no one there, I waited over an hour and no one showed up so I had to figure out how to get back to my room. I signed myself out and went to Hershey.

I have been sitting in the waiting room with over 20 people for the past 6 hours not a single person has came to check or take anyone in. I have really bad stomach pain and I’ve been sitting here in pain for 6 hours. I could’ve went to a quote on quote “EMERGENCY ROOM” and gotten taken in with a second, people here have issues and no one is willing to help anyone except take blood work and then make us sit here for 6hours, if you come here be prepared to sit all day because they make you sit here and take your money for how long you were here just for them to say 1 thing it’s unacceptable.
