We did the Valentine's lunch train. The ambiance and food was excellent. Great views and service. Highly recommended!

I just experienced this yesterday and it was amazing. The staff and customer service was highly professional, funny, and the covid-19 precautions were taken very seriously. They clean everything and THEY DO NOT USE BLEACH despite what another reviewer said. I just did the ride. There was no bleach used. They use a simple disinfectant and they wipe everything down and let it dry before you sit in the seat. I never once felt my life or health was at risk on this ride. The ride was so smooth and so much fun. Its the perfect thing to do with friends or even a date. It is approximately 2.06 miles in one direction and than they turn the carts around and its the same going back. It’s very easy to peddle. It’s a GREAT workout too. The scenery is so beautiful with so many trees and your right along the river so you can see the boats and houses on the other side. The whole experience was amazing. Such a great idea and I really hope more people get to experience this! Remember to say thank you to the workers. They work hard to provide this to folks during a time when there’s not much to do.
You have to reserve tickets in advance, because they go too fast. The excursion includes 30 minutes of ride on the very old steam train. The cars are old and squiqy, and the windows are half opened during the summer. For an adult, it is not so convenient to see what is outside. Anyway, there is just a forest and river, nothing else to see. During all the trip the conductor narrates the history of the train. Later, we ambarc the boat on Deep River, and have a trip for an hour. The captain explains all the way what we can see around us. The views are picturesque. After, we go back to steam train, and have a ride of 20 minutes, back to the station. All the crue members are very kind and friendly. There is a gift shop, restrooms, and 2 big parkins.
We came here while experiencing Essex during Columbus Day Weekend. One conductor was very kind, to me and especially my dad. We went on the train tour which was about half an hour followed by an hour long boat tour. Then a quick trip back to Essex station. The boat was my favorite part. Both discussed cool sights and history of the boat and train.
Displeased with my rail bike experience and treatment from employees especially customer service department. My spouse and I scheduled an afternoon activity for 10/17/20. We arrived and were displeased with the COVID-19 precautions that the Essex staff was using at this event. We and most intelligent people feel it is inappropriate to be spraying large amounts of bleach onto customers seating surfaces. Logic would dictate that especially on a porous surface this would likely ruin the clothing of the patrons at this event. That was precisely the case with our experience. Our newly purchased black clothing is now completely stained and discolored down the backside. After our experience we contacted the customer service that day and multiple times thereafter to report and resolve our issue. It has now been a complete business week without a response or even an expressed apology from any staff members. Highly disappointed with the experience and treatment from the staff. Especially after several attempts to reach an agreement quietly.
